#IBC2023
Richard Smith, CEO, EKT
What sets your company apart as a technology leader? EKT and its Skyfl ow partners have created an end-to-end solution, including a one-way DRM, to show DVB-NIP (mABR) + PVOD over satellite. This end-to-end solution includes a CMS, transcoding to unicast, encryption, unicast to multicast ABR, encapsulation with MPE or GSE, DVB transmission, reception on EKT’s gateway STB, display on TV with UI, streaming to mobile devices, and a mobile app with DRM support. DVB- NIP is the future of multicast transmission, in particular satellite transmission. This end-to-end, ready-to-deploy solution is unique and shows EKT and its Skyfl ow partners as the industry leaders in this technology.
What are your priorities for the next 12 months? Eighty percent of customer interest, and therefore our engineering effort, are on the Skyfl ow DVB-NIP + PVOD over satellite end-to-end solution. The next 12 months, we need to deliver the fi rst projects we have won with the Peruvian government and the 5-6 demos with customers which have paid for a PoC; and complete the next generation of the low-end and high-end products, which further reduce cost and increase the number of channels supported.
How is your company helping its customers to address the challenges faced by the media and entertainment industry? To offer a real alternative to Android, EKT has partnered with RDK, with a Video Accelerator program, with the objective of pre-integrating the latest RDK with DRM and premium apps onto a comprehensive hybrid

STB hardware platform. This is offered to any RDK member and means that any member adopting this platform has a fast track to get the product (or a derivative of the product), into production, with little development work.
What are the main areas of focus for your company during IBC2023?
EKT has taken a unique approach to IBC this year. We have three ‘products’ which defi ne EKT and set us apart from other STB companies. Firstly Skyfl ow, which I have already talked about. Second is Stratos – an end-to- end IP/OTT solution with a group of partners including VMX and Beenius, in a similar way to what we have done in Skyfl ow. Finally, RDK middleware. We have a large area in Hall 1, which we are sharing with many of our partners in the three core areas, these include; RDK, DTVkit, EasyBroadcast, Quadrille, MoTV, Ocillion, Access and Telesete. We have a shared Skyfl ow demonstration area and it will provide our customers with a one-stop shop for all discussions, plus a well-stocked bar of course! 1.D61
Delivering control of the full feature set of the System T production platform in a single software application, Solid State Logic claims its Tempest Control app is the next step in providing virtualised control for broadcasters. The app provides additional control options and production fl exibility for key broadcast audio applications, including remote production, news-room production, backup scenarios, or anywhere where a physical control surface may not be required. SSL’s System T is an IP-native audio production system which can be tailored to any production application by providing any confi guration of control surfaces, processing engines and I/O. The company says its Tempest Control app software enhances this by directly controlling System

T’s Tempest Engines, allowing broadcasters to further scale control solutions alongside production requirements. A lightweight remote production
fl ypack system consisting of a 1U Tempest DSP engine, PC or laptop and I/O is now possible, providing up to 256 channels of on-site low- latency audio processing. If a remote workfl ow is required, the system can be controlled remotely from a studio location via another control interface, which could be the main control room console, a computer with a connected fader tile, or a computer running the Tempest Control app. 8.B81
