Canon has launched its fi rst set of RF-mount cinema prime lenses for its Cinema EOS System. Compress 2X BY KEVIN EMMOTT

Dutch company Compress 2X has chosen IBC as its fi rst-ever exhibition to demonstrate its video compression technology. Compatible with a range of formats, the company claims a 99.7% reduction in fi le size with no loss of quality. The company is introducing a new picture compression service to enable reductions in the fi le size of images

alongside its established video codecs. “We realised IBC is the best place for us to bring this technology,” said Founder and CEO Soerinder Dataram, who established the company in 2016. “We’ve been working on this algorithm for 22 years, and we can work across all formats to reduce size while maintaining quality.” Press 2X is a batch-system video compression technology, while Press 2X Professional is specifi cally tailored for large

X MARKS THE SPOT Grass Valley BY KEVIN EMMOTT

Built with a cloud-centric microservices architecture on its AMPP Ecosystem, Playout X from Grass Valley employs a SaaS model to allow companies to quickly deploy new channels, such as for live special event coverage, and collapse them again when no longer required.

Described as a complete

broadcast-grade solution, Playout X also supports dynamic insertion of rich graphics and subtitles, 32 programmable stereo audio channels (64 mono) as well as live

mount protocol transmission, and just like existing EF-mount Cinema Prime Lenses, operators can control magnifi cation, chromatic aberration correction, peripheral

light correction, and a dual-pixel focus guide via camera body operations. The lenses also feature lens distortion correction. Features include: 11-blade iris for natural round blurring; unifi ed Cinema EOS colour balance across the series for consistent colour; and a unifi ed design, including gear position, lens diameter and rotation angle, for ease of swapping without having to adjust matte boxes. The lenses are expected to start shipping early in 2024 and will be priced at $3950 each (or $4220 each for the three widest models). 11.C41, 9.D01, 10.HR

stream format support, including SDI, ST2110, NDI, SRT and RIST, in addition to multiformat timeline, including back-to-back interlaced, progressive, SD, HD and UHD in any format.

The company says it has

re-architected playout services hosted by AMPP to provide industry-leading application density and reduced end-to-end latency, with support for Linux driving down costs even further. “Support for Linux as well as

Windows reduces the cost of ownership by about 40% compared to a Windows instance for cloud- hosted channels,” said Steve Hassan, Senior Director, Playout, Grass Valley.
