Section 6 • Site Information Special amenities such as storage unit shelving and spe-
cialized containers were low on the list of importance (21.2 percent and 13.7 percent, respectively). Nearly 20 percent of the customers surveyed said that a wide range of accessories for sale is important. This includes but is not limited to locks and plastic containers, along with the other usual moving supplies.
On a generational basis, more millennials felt that they
needed most features listed in Table 6.9 on page 76 than any other generation. Their most important feature was 24/7
anytime access to their units (60.9 percent), followed by pest control (57.7 percent) and electronic security gate access to the facility (56.3 percent). The least important feature for this age group was the facility’s proximity to work or school (27.4 percent).
For Gen-X, the most sought-after feature was also 24/7
anytime access to their units (58 percent), followed by elec- tronic security gate access to the facility (56.6 percent). And, like millennials, this generation found little need for special containers for storing.
For baby boomers, 24/7 access was not the most
desirable feature. Instead, they ranked proximity to residence and electronic security gate access as their top needs—both at 58.6 percent. This was followed by drive-up parking at the unit (57.9 per- cent); 24/7 access ranked fourth.
