With numbers only slightly lower, the New Eng-


land subregion followed the same trend. Occupancy increased by 0.4 percent in the second quarter of 2016 from 90.5 percent to 90.9 percent. Over the next two quarters, it fell seasonally to 89.2 percent and 89 per- cent respectively.


Across both subregions, as seen in Chart 9.4, the


highest occupancy was reported for the Middle At- lantic, while the lowest occupancy across all four quarters was at 89 percent in New England.


A somewhat similar trend was seen for the West South Central


subregion with occupancy hitting a high of 91.4 for the third quarter of 2016, which was 0.5 percent higher than the previous quarter.


Occupancy In The South Occupancy for the South is compared in Chart 9.5. In addition the West South Cen- tral and East South Central subregions shown in Tables 9.9 and 9.10.


As seen in Chart


9.5, occupancy for the West South Central was the high- est for the South region in the second quarter of 2017 at 91.5 percent. It was highest for the East South Central for Q3 2016 at 91.4 percent—only a differ- ence of 0.1 percent. The lowest occupancy for the West South Central subregion was 89.9 percent for Q4 2016, while it was 88.7 percent for the East South Central in Q1 of 2017.

Central peaked during the third quarter of 2016 at 92.2 percent, sur- passing Q2 2016 by 1.3 percent. After dipping to 89.9 in the fourth quarter of 2016, there was an uptick to 90 percent in the first quar- ter of 2017, followed by another slight increase of 1.5 percent for Q2 2017 to bring occupancy back up to 91.5—slightly lower than the Q3 2016 peak.


A somewhat similar trend was seen for the West South Central


subregion with occupancy hitting a high of 91.4 for the third quar- ter of 2016, which was 0.5 percent higher than the previous quarter. (See Table 9.10.) The next two quarters saw slight drops in occu- pancy of 2.4 percent and 0.3 percent respectively. Occupancy for Q2 2017 came back up to 89.9 percent. While slightly less than Q2 and Q3 of 2016, it is still a respectable rate of occupancy.





 
