LONDON BLACK CABS WILL NOW OFFER £10 TAXI RIDES FOR NHS WORKERS
Gett UK, the black taxi app, is now offering NHS staff London rides for the bargain price of £10. All staff will be able to hail a black cab via the newly launched Gett NHS option on the Gett app. All they need to do is present the driver with their NHS photo ID and they will be eligible for £10 rides any- where in zones 1 to 3. All drivers will be able to accept the ride at their discre- tion, but the full fare will go directly to them. Steve McNamara, General Secretary of
the Licensed Taxi Drivers Association, said: “I know hard- working cabbies will be delighted to have the opportunity to help in a time of need.
“It is brilliant that firms such as Gett are dedicating their resources so cre- atively to support NHS workers, and this is just another example of what our trade brings to this city.”
Another black cab app, Free Now, has created a specific “NHS Heroes” book- ing option which offers a reduced fare for NHS work-
ers in London, to get them to and from hospitals safely and quickly. Following a survey of black cab drivers that use the app, an overwhelm- ing 97% wanted to offer their support for NHS workers during this crisis. They will be able to get black cabs to and from work for a reduced rate, which equates to 30% off the lowest tariff. In an effort to fur- ther reduce the costs, Free Now has also written to the Cabinet Office to explore what more can be done to sup- port NHS staff.
GLASGOW TAXI FUNDRAISER TO PROVIDE FREE TRANSPORT FOR NHS STAFF
A fundraiser has been launched in a bid to provide free taxi journeys for NHS staff in Glas- gow. The Glasgow NHS Taxi Fund is hoping to raise £10,000 to cover the cost of providing nurses, doctors and other key health workers free taxi journeys to
and from work. The fundraiser reads: “I would like to set up a fund to cover the cost of transport for NHS workers in Glasgow. “The reasons for this are simple: Their time will be better spent in hospitals than waiting on other transport. “Taxi drivers still
have to pay for fuel and their car etc - I know many have already given NHS staff free transport while incurring a loss.” The initial fund is in partnership with Glasgow Taxis Ltd who has agreed to provide their high- est discount rate available.

York private hire firm 659659 has been forced to re- think its operation. Lee Clarke, one of the directors, said: “Most of our staff have had to take a reduction of hours but they have been really understand- ing.” Lee said many of the drivers, who are self-employed but pay the firm a sub- scription, were not earning enough to manage.
He said: “We have cut their subs in half to try and give back to the drivers.” In a bid to drum up business, the com- pany has been con- tacting other local businesses to see if they can help. “We have been around all the big supermarkets offer- ing to help with deliveries for click and collect cus- tomers,” said Lee. “We would charge a set fare to the cus- tomer to deliver their food.

“When we told staff at Sainsbury’s, Foss Bank, about our elderly customers they gave us six trays of food to give to our customers. When we delivered that they were over the moon.” The firm has also offered its services
to chemists to help with prescription collections.
He also said their landlord had been very supportive. “He said we don’t have to pay rent until this is over. He said we will speak regularly to keep updated.”
