SILVERTOWN TAXIS, MACCLESFIELD PLEDGE SUPPORT TO ELDERLY
Silvertown Taxis, Macclesfield, has decided to utilise its cars to help the elderly during the outbreak. Drivers have offered to pick up essential shop- ping or medication for the vulnerable
who have been advised by the gov- ernment to self- isolate. Macclesfield has a large ageing popu- lation, so services like this are essential to those elderly people who may not
have family near them to help. Silvertown Taxis are offering this free service to senior cit- izens in the local area, and are en- couraging those who are struggling to contact them.
DESTINED DERRY TAXIS OFFERS TO COLLECT PRESCRIPTIONS AND SHOPPING
Destined Derry Taxis has offered to col- lect prescriptions and shopping for the elderly and most vulnerable.
It has set up a dedi- cated service for those who are at risk and are in self- isolation. The firm, based in the Foyle Road area, has asked local chemists under pressure to
arrange for one of their cars to collect and deliver prescrip- tions free of charge. In a statement post- ed on their Face- book page, the taxi firm said: “The office will remain open to serve our communi- ties for as long as possible to ensure that our vital com- munity service con- tinues.
“If there is a chemist that is under pres- sure trying to de- liver prescriptions; or any community group or charity dis- tributing supplies to the vulnerable or the elderly, call our dispatch team, quote Community Response and Des- tined Derry Taxis will provide a driver to help out.”
SHREWSBURY TAXIS AND TELFORD CARS TAKE ON NEW ROLE TO HELP ISOLATED
Matt Young, owner of Shrewsbury Taxis and Telford Cars, said he was working with local stores, restaurants and to ensure local busi- nesses stayed afloat and offer help to the community.

people who are self- isolating. Mr Young said: “We can collect people’s shopping for them, whether from the supermarket or in- dependent stores. All they have to do is a click and collect order with the super- market, or place an

order with an inde- pendent shop and we can do the rest. “We want people who are having to self-isolate, to know that we’re here to
help.”
He said the compa- ny was also talking to restaurants and takeaways to find ways of supporting them.
ORBIT TAXIS, BOLTON GIVES FREE LIFTS TO PENSIONERS
A Bolton taxi firm is going above and beyond to make sure the elderly are able to do their shopping by offer- ing free trips. Orbit Taxis, based on Chorley Old Road, will be offer- ing pensioners in need free lifts to do their shopping. Sammy Patel, the manager of the firm, said: “One of the drivers, Salim, came and said to me, ‘I don’t mind if you've got any elderly peo- ple that need a hand with their shopping, I’ll take them with- out fare’.
“I sent a message to the group of drivers asking if anyone else wanted to help. Within a few min-

utes I had 25 to 30 responses saying ‘Yep, I don’t mind, I’ll help’ so we have more than enough drivers to help.” The only require- ments to access a free taxi are being elderly, and needing the help. Mr Patel added: “We
just want to offer that little bit extra for people. “Lots of shops are putting prices up rather than offering help. They’re taking advantage of their customers but we want to do every- thing we can to help.”
