PHTM COVID-19 BULLETIN A GUIDE TO CARRYING

This is not Government edict; these are merely common-sense suggestions to give a bit of guidance as to how to adhere to the rules, remain safe and to look after yourself as well as your passengers.

ALL HACKNEY & PRIVATE HIRE DRIVERS:

You can still work if you must, but the current travel restrictions mean that transport of passengers should ONLY be undertaken for emergency purposes such as: shopping, doctors and hospital appointments, collecting prescriptions and necessary work; BUT NOT for social gatherings or visiting friends.

However WE ARE NOT suggesting it is your responsibility to ask, we are just offering guidance to where your passengers should be going, and do not collect more than two passengers unless they are from the same household, and no multiple pick ups so that ‘social distancing’ can be observed as best possible.

Hackney Carriage Drivers: Do not sit at a rank under the current UK lockdown.

Private Hire Drivers: If possible, ensure that your passengers sit in

ON YOUR BUSINESS DURING THE CRISIS the back seat of your vehicle.

Taxi/PHV Drivers: If you are still fulfilling school contracts, avoid physical contact with pupils and observe strict hand hygiene rules.

ALL LICENSED VEHICLE PROPRIETORS AND DRIVERS

1. Wash your hands frequently: ideally with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or alcohol-based (at least 60% alcohol) hand gel or wipes

2. Wear gloves and handle as little cash as possible

3. Use cr/cd machines and contactless payments and Google Pay/Apple Pay to minimise contact

4. Wash and change your clothes after every shift

5. Remove any reading material from the vehicle

6. Open your window to allow fresh air to circulate through the vehicle

7. Provide tissues and disposable bags for every passenger, so that they can dispose

of used tissues without you having to handle them

8. Carry alcohol-based disinfectant spray and cloths in the vehicle, wiping down all touchable surfaces after every journey: interior and exterior door handles, seats, phones, PDA’s and credit card machines

9. Valet your vehicles regularly to make them look and smell clean; look well groomed yourself

10. Encourage passengers to sit in the back of saloon taxis or PHVs

11. Do not allow passengers to eat or drink in your vehicle

In addition, eat healthily, try to exercise and limit smoking and drinking alcohol between shifts.

ABOVE ALL

The message here is strong: the COVID-19 invasion is a long-term problem; it is not going away any time soon, and you must all try to cope with its consequences and plan for the future the best as you possibly can.

FINANCIAL HELP YOU CAN GET NOW

HMRC has just set up a help line specifically for the self-employed who will be struggling now and continue to struggle. The coronavirus helpline: 0300 456 3565. They will give you advice on your tax and any benefits you can claim.

MORTGAGE HELP

Mortgage repayment holidays are being taken on a case-by-case basis, and the length of any suspension can vary between banks.

Typically most are offering a three-month payment holiday but remember, this will not be added to the length of your term, but rather amalgamated into the life of your present mortgage. This means your future

APRIL 2020

monthly payments will go up to cover this shortfall over the rest of your term.

OTHER SUPPORT FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH FINANCIAL DIFFICULTIES INCLUDES:

• Refunds on credit card cash advance fees • The option of applying for a temporarily increased credit card borrowing limit

• Asking for an increased cash withdrawal limit of up to £500

The measures are similar to those already in place for people facing financial difficulties.

UK Finance, which represents the major banks, said that all banks would consider increasing overdrafts or allowing repayment relief for loan or mortgage repayments for

those affected by the virus. “We would encourage customers who think they may be affected to contact their provider as soon as possible to discuss the support available to them”.
