payment holiday will play a role in soft- ening the impact that Coronavirus is having on taxi drivers. “We recognise and celebrate the efforts they make daily to keep Britain moving and this three-month bridge will hopefully ease the burden drivers now face.” In addition LEVC recently announced a temporary ex- tended closure of its manufacturing oper- ations in Coventry, Ansty, in response to the acceleration of COVID-19 and its impact on the supply chain and the operational effici- ency of the business.

An extended three- week shutdown period has now commenced, replac- ing the planned one week at Easter. LEVC CEO Joerg Hofmann said: “LEVC is committed to the wellbeing of our employees and keeping all jobs secure throughout this difficult period. Our strategic dir- ection remains on track and further growth planned this year; taking these measures to adjust production now will ensure that we are ready to react and supply the markets again as soon as possible.”

Bluedrop Services is working hard to support all of its business partners, insurers and clients alike, through the current crisis. Below are just some of the key questions we are being asked by our clients which may help you.

Q Q

My normal work carrying passengers has deteriorated, can I carry goods for hire and reward instead?

Some insurers have automatically extended cover, free of

charge, to allow vehicles to be used to deliver parcels, groceries, medicines and even take-away food, whilst others are willing to do so, on an ad-hoc basis.

Please check with your broker first, if you cannot get this extension of coverthen Bluedrop Services can offer you short-term 30-day policies to allow you to work on this basis.

I have no work and should be isolating, what can I do about my insurance to reduce the cover or costs to help as I will have no money coming in?

Look to reduce cover to “Laid up”. This means that as long as you register your vehicle as SORN (Statutory Off Road Notice) with the DVLA, and keep thevehicle on private property (on a drive, in the garage, or a secure compound – i.e. not on the road) most (if not all insurers) will suspend the normal cover.

“Laid Up” cover means that the vehicle will still be covered for Malicious Damage, Fire and Theft but will exclude any cover on the road and at a fraction of thenormal cost.

Insurers are all trying to be flexible and a number have already waived thiscondition. If you have not been notified of this condition being waived then you should contact your broker and request the concession.

Speak directly to your finance company and advise them of your circumstances. They should consider all requests for payment breaks, reduced payments or re-spreading of payments.

If you are struggling to get through to them, contact your broker.
