ALBA PRIVATE HIRE, BATHGATE TAKES ELDERLY TO TESCO FOR FREE
A West Lothian PH company is doing its bit, to make sure local elderly people can get their shop- ping in case they need to self-isolate. Alba Private Hire in Bathgate offered a free taxi service to elderly people in the local area who want to go to Tesco’s. The private hire company took to social media to announce that they would be offering a free taxi service to the elderly on Friday 13 March between 9.30-10.30am and 1.30-2.30pm.

Hero taxi drivers in Exeter have offered to take any over-65s trapped at home due to the coron- avirus pandemic shopping for free. Generous cabbies at I Taxi will run pen-
sioners to the shops within the city for the extent of the cri- sis. A company spokes- man said: “We should look after the elderly, they are the vulnerable pillars of
our community. We don’t want to lose anyone. We will go on for as long as it takes.”
He said the compa- ny’s ten drivers were all in support of the plan.

The kind gesture has received an out- pouring of praise on social media, with one woman saying: “Fantastic! I hope there are essential items left for the vulnerable and el-
derly to buy.”
Another local said: “That’s great. We should all be follow- ing this example and helping neighbours, family, friends, any- one who’s house- bound etc.”
A local taxi firm picked up click and collect orders for those unable to get out.
A2B Cars in Barry said on social media: “For anyone need- ing shopping, but can’t get to the shops we at A2B will try to do anything we can to help!
“As of immediately we are going to be accepting click and collect deliveries, there will be a meter charge for the fare, so please don’t hesi- tate to contact us. “All we would need from you, is the code for your shop- ping to be able to pick it up.

LA TAXIS, NEWCASTLE TAKE PENSIONERS TO ASDA FREE OF CHARGE
Drivers with cab firm LA Taxis, own- ed by Rob Arm- strong, picked up dozens of the elderly to take them to Asda at Gosforth, Benton, Metrocentre or Byker, and brought them home with their groceries. A spokesman for LA Taxis said: “As a company, we decid- ed to offer all of our elderly customers free travel to and from Asda super- markets during this period. It’s the least we can do as a busi- ness for our com- munity in a time of crisis. “We determined the
