WEYMOUTH FIRMS OFFER TAKEAWAYS BY TAXI FOR THOSE STUCK AT HOME
Four Weymouth businesses have joined forces to deliver takeaways to people’s homes. Weyline Taxis, Bee Cars, Shalims Indian Restaurant and Fish ‘n’ Fritz are launch- ing a takeaway del- ivery service to Weymouth residents.
Ian Ferguson of Weyline said: “I reached out to some of my busi- ness friends in the restaurant trade, to see how we could help and this new delivery service came out of those discussions. This scheme helps local
businesses keep money local rather than going straight out of Weymouth to some corporate head office else- where. If we all work together and sup- port each other, we can get through the difficult months ahead.”
BLACK CABS COULD TRANSPORT DOCTORS AND NURSES
The Prime Minister said on Wednesday 25 March, that black cabs were being considered for use transporting NHS workers safely ac- ross London. The plans were being drawn up amid anger that the Tube network is still packed at peak hours, despite the lockdown.
Boris Johnson was told by Sir Charles Walker during PMQs that there is an “army” of drivers “itching to get involved like the Spitfires in 1940”. “Can we find a way to get doctors and nurses safely across London by using these black cab drivers, not on the meter but perhaps
on a contracted basis?” he asked. The PM replied: “My honourable friend makes a superb point and that has already been raised in our considera- tions. The black cab drivers are a fantas- tic service, they are an unsung service and I believe they can certainly rise to this challenge.”
ADT TAXIS, LEICS OFFER SERVICES TO HELP WITH THE COVID-19 CRISIS
ADT Taxis, part of the Driven by Riide network, has been offering special ser- vices to the public in response to the Covid-19 crisis. The firm is giving 20% off all taxi rides for NHS and emer- gency workers to keep vital services going using a special code via their app. Emergency care packs are also being delivered free of charge around Leic- estershire to the vul- nerable and elderly trapped at home .

EXCEL TAXIS, MOLD OFFER DELIVERY SERVICE FOR THOSE SELF-ISOLATING
Excel Taxis, based in Mold, has posted on social media offer- ing the services of their drivers to make collections of food and medication from local supermarkets and chemists. The team has said that they are also ensuring that their
office and waiting spaces in the town are kept clean and sanitised. A spokesman for Excel Taxis told the Leader: “If anybody is unable or unsure about heading out into town, then we are providing a ser- vice where we will
pick up items from the supermarkets and chemists and deliver them to your door, this service is available during all of our opening hours, including weekends. “The community is wonderful, and we want to do our best to help everyone.”
CENTRAL TAXIS, SUNDERLAND WITH THEIR OFFER FOR DRIVERS
ADT has also lent one of its minibuses to help get supplies moved around the area. And locals can now get their vital supplies collected from shops or chemists by one of ADT’s 600-plus
taxis. Customers can also now book a taxi to go to a store and pick up their pre- paid orders and have it delivered back to their homes without them having to leave the house.
