John has seen his department continue to grow and develop in the years since his Sub36 award. He says: “We are just going from strength to strength as a team and we’ve developed our specialisms.”
John says the best piece of advice he has been given is: “Keep going and don’t give up on what you are looking to achieve.
“There’s going to be bumps in the road. It is not going to be success at every step.
“If you try something and it doesn’t work, then we’ve learned from that. Don’t regret those things that you try but don’t work. I’d also say, just keep doing it your way.
“I’ve always operated with a long-term goal rather than wanting to achieve things straight away.
“And, you know, by setting those goals, it’s enabled me to continue to work towards those little improvements that add up to the big wins at the end of the day.”
Being a partner at Forbes, John is excited for the firm’s future. He says: “We’ve achieved a lot in a short space of time in the commercial
division at Forbes but there’s an incredible amount of potential remaining for future growth.
“I’m extremely excited to be tasked in playing an even greater part in Forbes’ long-term vision of becoming the number one regional law firm with a national reach.”
And he says he wouldn’t swap doing his job in Lancashire for any other part of the world. “We can all just talk to each other on a personable level. We’ve got an incredible amount of diversity here in terms of the different cultures and types of businesses here.
“You’ve got hospitality in Blackpool and north Lancashire, the fantastic manufacturing in east Lancashire and a thriving digital sector here as well.
“I think the new Lancashire combined authority is quite exciting for the business community and I’m looking forward to seeing where it can take us.”
Away from the office, John lives in Wrea Green with Rachael and his three children – Jack, six; Sophie, four and Rory, who is nearly one. He enjoys golf and supporting Preston North End.

What are your ambitions? Where do you see yourself in five years?
Lancashire Business View’s Sub36 networking group gathered at Mytton Fold in Blackburn for their latest get together.
The event on June 11, featured an inspiring talk by Andi Lewis, a personal brilliance and business transformation coach, who shared how experiencing a cardiac arrest changed her perspective on life.
Olivia McCaughran, who organises the Sub36 events, said: “Andi had a message that resonated with the Sub36 delegates, and her key takeaway was that ‘every moment counts’.”
She encouraged the group to pursue what makes them happy, both professionally and personally.
The event was sponsored by Bowker MINI, Fresh Perspective Resourcing and Pierce.

In five years, I hope to continue growing as a creative marketing professional – learning, pushing boundaries, and producing work that’s impactful, inspiring and strategically strong. My ambition is to build a fulfilling career that blends creativity with purpose.
Tell us something about you that people might not know. What do you do away from work? Any interesting hobbies?
I spend most of my free time immersed in marketing – whether working on personal projects or exploring new ideas. I genuinely live and breathe it. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but for me it’s a passion that never takes a day off – and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
What’s the value to you and your business of being part of the Sub 36 network?
Being part of Sub36 connects me and the business I represent with passionate, like- minded professionals across Lancashire. The relaxed, informal events remove networking pressures, making it easy to build genuine relationships and discover friendly faces – both new and familiar – while fostering meaningful connections.
