That makes it top in the country for the percentage of jobs made up by manufacturing and The University of Lancashire – with its growing Burnley campus – is in the UK’s top 20 for aerospace and aeronautical engineering.
The North West’s aerospace cluster is the largest in Europe, contributing £7bn to the UK economy, and Burnley is home to important players in it including Velocity Composites, Paradigm Precision and Safran Nacelles.
Neil Evans is managing director at Veka, a manufacturer of extruded uPVC products and a major employer in the town, operating a 35-acre site.
He says one of the strengths of Burnley is its people and their work ethic. He says: “It’s a town that hasn’t had a lot of privileges and automatic advantages, so people have to fight hard and work hard.

He believes the longevity of the Veka operation is a major factor when it comes to recruitment. “We’ve been in the town since 1986 and we have

And in March this year its equipment played a pivotal role in achieving the Best Sound
award at the 97th Academy Awards, for the film Dune: Part Two.
AMS Neve can be found in the world’s most prestigious studios and it is all designed and made in Burnley.
Its pioneering products –
including many ‘world firsts’ – have changed the way that music, TV and film production is carried out worldwide.
AMS Neve exports 85 per cent of its products to 90 countries and has been awarded four previous Queen’s Awards for Enterprise. Mark says that businesses that set up in Burnley tend to stay.
