PUBLIC SERVICES, ANIMAL CARE & SPORT

This introductory programme combines classroom theory and practical learning to provide a taster in a range of subject areas. You will learn core knowledge and specific skills that underpins each of these specialisms that will allow you to progress onto a higher level of study within your chosen area.


You will undertake an assortment of study components including core and specialist modules, a tutorial programme, and the opportunity to improve your GCSE Maths and English. The course will also support you in developing your study skills.


You will study the following modules:





Maintaining the health and wellbeing of animals


• Finding out about the public services


• Keeping active and healthy


• Developing a personal progression plan


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold four GCSEs at grade 2 or equivalent (or above), preferably including Maths and English.


PROGRESSION Upon successful completion of this course, you can progress onto the Level 2 Animal Care course.


ANIMAL CARE


Level 2 | Duration: 1 year North Devon | FTB456


This T Level Transition Programme has been developed to help you gain the knowledge, skills and work experience needed to help you progress onto your chosen T Level.


You will gain the following: •

Industry-based work experience


Relevant English, maths and digital skills


• Focused individual support and personal development


The course encompasses the Technical Certificate in Animal Care.


You will study the following modules:


• Animal health and welfare maintenance


• Animal feeding and accommodation


• Animal behaviour and handling


• Working in the animal care industry


• Health and safety for land- based industries


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold four GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent (or above), preferably including GCSE Maths and English.


PROGRESSION Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress onto the Level 3 Animal Management course.


Technical knowledge and practical skills


ANIMAL MANAGEMENT


Level 3 | Duration: 2 years North Devon | FTB044


This extended diploma in Animal Management will give you excellent academic and practical preparation to work within an animal setting.


Throughout the study programme, you will have a tutor with relevant experience in the field to help support you.


The course consists of a range of specialist, theoretical and practical units which include:


• Animal nursing • Animal health • Zoo husbandry •


Biology • Exotics


You will also be required to undertake 150 hours of compulsory work experience per year.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including GCSE Maths, English Language and Science.


PROGRESSION Successful completion of this course will enable you to work within animal care settings (such as a conservation organisations, kennels and catteries, animal charities and animal training) or progress onto a university-level course.
