PUBLIC SERVICES, ANIMAL CARE & SPORT


Level 1 | Duration: 1 year North Devon | FTB496


This introductory programme combines classroom theory and practical learning to provide a taster in a range of subject areas. You will learn core knowledge and specific skills that underpins each of these specialisms that will allow you to progress onto a higher level of study within your chosen area.


You will undertake an assortment of study components including core and specialist modules, a tutorial programme, and the opportunity to improve your GCSE Maths and English. The course will also support you in developing your study skills.


You will study the following modules:


• Keeping active and healthy


• Finding out about the public services





Maintaining the health and wellbeing of animals


• Developing a personal progression plan


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold four GCSEs at grade 2 or equivalent (or above), preferably including Maths and English.


PROGRESSION Upon successful completion of this course, you can progress onto the Level 2 First Diploma in Sport, Diploma in Preparation for Public Services or Transition to T Level in Animal Care.


SPORT


Level 2 | Duration: 1 year North Devon | FTB485


This First Diploma in Sport is designed for anyone with a passion for sport. It will give you a taste of the skills and experiences you'll need to succeed in a career in sport!


You will study the following modules:


• Fitness for sport • Anatomy and physiology


• Practical sports performance and analysis


• Leading sports activities • •


Injury in sport Training for personal fitness


You will be involved in planning and leading sports activities, instructing exercise to others and contributing to real-life sport experiences. You will also have the opportunity to gain real leadership skills in a range of settings such as schools, sports and physical activity festivals and community events.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold four GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent (or above), preferably including GCSE Maths and English. You should also have a keen interest in the human body, and an enthusiasm to lead and participate in sport and fitness.


PROGRESSION Successful completion of this course can lead to further study in our Level 3 Sport or Level 3 Sport & Outdoor Activity courses.


SPORT


Level 3 | Duration: 2 years North Devon | FTB102


This National Extended Diploma in Sport covers many aspects of the sports industry and gives an excellent academic sport background to take forward into a related career. The qualification combines theoretical research assignments with practical assessment and includes a wide range of areas related to sport and fitness.


You will study the following modules:


• Anatomy and physiology • Sports leadership


• Professional development in the sports industry


• Fitness testing


• Fitness training and programming


• Research methods in sport •


• Skill acquisition • Practical sport •


Investigating business in sport and the active leisure industry


Rules, regulations and officiating


• Work experience


You'll also take an active role in a range of sports events in the local community.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including GCSE Maths and English language. A science GCSE would also be beneficial. You will be expected to have gained a Merit on a relevant Level 2 course.


PROGRESSION After completing this qualification you could undertake a degree- level course (e.g. in sports massage, teaching, sports coaching) or move into direct employment in the sports and leisure industry.
