This course helps learners achieve their potential in life and work. It covers the four outcomes that young people with disabilities have said are important to them: Employment, Independent Living, Community Inclusion and Good Health.


You can choose from two pathways:


• Pathway A: Independent Living and Community Inclusion develops the personal skills needed for living with increasing independence and getting ready for employment.


• Pathway B: Further Education and Employment supports students into gaining more qualifications and getting a job, as well as developing skills for independent living and community involvement. Students develop employability skills through vocational options such as bike maintenance, woodwork, catering, business administration, IT, art and conservation.


The course is enriched by a variety of activities, workshops, educational visits and a residential trip.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS There are no formal entry requirements for this course.


PROGRESSION On completion of this course, you can progress towards further education, employment, independent living and participation in the community.


This is a progression route for students who are aged 18 years and over and who require an additional year at college to further develop specific skills for independence and employability.


You will follow a work-related programme and focus on any gaps in your specific skills set/ knowledge, enabling you to move into employment or to progress into a Supported Internship.


During the course, you will learn the following skills:


• The Liberty Centre: Maths and English skills are put into practice when using tills; customer service skills are enhanced when waiting on tables; and hospitality skills are used to prepare and cook meals in the kitchen.


• Land-based skills: Access purpose-designed grounds, potting sheds and a greenhouse to practise horticulture skills.





Craft and furniture upcycling: Learn specific, functional and transferable skills to create products to sell as part of social enterprise.


• English, maths and ICT are embedded across the vocational element


• Work Experience and developing employability skills.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS There are no formal entry requirements for this course.


PROGRESSION The aim of the course is for students to be equipped with the appropriate skills for transition out of college, this may include a supported internship or a community provision that promotes independent and supported living.

This course is suitable for anyone aged 17+ with an EHCP. It is designed to help students to recognise and develop skills to achieve their potential with life and work.


You will study the following units:


• Exploring the world of work: Investigating job roles, career pathways and volunteering





Creating personal skills profile: Exploring skills, strengths and vocational profiling


• Learning how to apply for a job, preparing for and attending a job interview





Individualised work placement in the community


• Community team project: Planning and carrying out a group project


• Enterprise activities: Developing and managing an enterprise project


• Vocational element: Options include catering, hospitality, and woodwork





IT, English and maths skills are embedded throughout


Partnerships with a variety of local employers will provide opportunities to experience a work placement.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS There are no formal entry requirements for this course.


PROGRESSION Successful completion of this course may provide you with the opportunity to progress to a supported internship course, an apprenticeship or a higher level of study in a vocational area.
