This introductory programme combines classroom theory and practical learning to provide a taster in a range of subject areas. You will learn core knowledge and specific skills that underpins each of these specialisms that will allow you to progress onto a higher level of study within your chosen area.
You will undertake an assortment of study components including core and specialist modules, a tutorial programme, and the opportunity to improve your GCSE Maths and English. The course will also support you in developing your study skills.
You will study the following modules:
• Finding out about the public services
• Keeping active and healthy •
• Developing a personal progression plan
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold four GCSEs at grade 2 or equivalent (or above), preferably including Maths and English.
PROGRESSION Upon successful completion of this course, you can progress onto the Level 2 Diploma in Preparation for Public Services, First Diploma in Sport or Transition to T Level in Animal Care.

PREPARATION FOR PUBLIC SERVICES

This Diploma in Preparation for Public Services covers a wide range of topics to prepare you for a future in the public service sector (police, fire, paramedic and armed forces) and help you with your career options.
You will study the following modules:

Public service skills and support for the community
• Employment in uniformed public services
• Health and fitness for entry into the uniformed public services
• Activities and teamwork for the public services
• Sport and recreation in the public services
• Expedition and land navigation skills
•
Crime and its effects on society
• Attending emergency incidents in the public services
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold four GCSEs at grade 3 or equivalent (or above), preferably including GCSE Maths and English.
PROGRESSION Upon successful completion of this course, you will be able to progress on to the Level 3 Extended Diploma in Uniformed Protective Services or Level 3 Sport & Outdoor Activities.
SPORT AND OUTDOOR ACTIVITIES
Level 3 | Duration: 2 years North Devon | FTB500
This National Extended Diploma in Sport and Outdoor Activities blends classroom-based theory with practical activities. You'll get to experience outdoor rock climbing, kayaking, canoeing, mountain biking, navigating, coasteering, gorge walking and anything else we can cram in!
You will study the following modules:
• Careers in the sport and active leisure industry
• Health, wellbeing and sport • Personal skills development • Leadership and instructing • Research project in sport • Sporting injuries
• Influence of technology in sport and physical activity
• Organising events • Sports tourism • Health and safety factors • Outdoor activity provision
• Impacts and sustainability of outdoor activities
• Expedition experience
You must be happy to get cold, wet and muddy, and accept and manage the risks involved in what are potentially dangerous activities.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including GCSE Maths and English language. You will also need to be comfortable with heights, and being in cold water.
PROGRESSION After completing this qualification you could undertake a degree-level course (e.g. in sport, geography, environmental science) or move into employment in the UK or abroad.
