BUSINESS A LEVEL


Level 3 | Duration: 2 years North Devon | FTB341


When you study Business A Level, you will learn to demonstrate the inter-related nature of business using business models, theories and techniques to support analysis of contemporary business issues and situations.


You will develop your understanding of how businesses operate, how to analyse data, the decision- making process, competition and changing technology.


You will study the following modules:


• What is business?


• Decision making to improve financial performance


• Choosing strategic direction


• Managing strategic change


You will use non-quantitative and quantitative data including the interpretation of index numbers and calculations such as ratios and percentages.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths. You must have a grade 5 in English Language.


PROGRESSION Successful completion of this course can lead to a range of career choices such as management, marketing, finance, retailing, manufacturing, project management and local government. It's also a great route for studying courses such as economics or business studies at degree level.


CLASSICAL CIVILISATION A LEVEL


Level 3 | Duration: 2 years North Devon | FTB007


In this Classical Civilisation A Level course, you will look at some truly fascinating periods in history.


You will study the world of the Ancient Greeks, and in particular 'The Odyssey', by the poet Homer, in which the culture and religion of the Greeks is interwoven with the characters and monsters he meets.


You will also study Ancient Rome, specifically the Politics of the Roman Republic and the political ideas of that time. You will get to know leaders such as Julius Caesar, Marcus Cicero and Marcus Cato and the tumultuous events that lead to the collapse of the Roman political system in the last century BC. You will examine Rome's first 'Emperor', Augustus, and the way in which he created an image that ensured his uninterrupted rule of Rome and its Empire for over 40 years. You will look at art, architecture, coins and poetry to see how he was able to communicate specific messages of power and authority to those he ruled over.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including Maths. You must have a grade 5 in English Language.


PROGRESSION The knowledge and skills learned on Classical Civilisation A Level can lead you on to study a wide range of subjects at university as well as careers such as teaching, publishing, curating and politics.


ECONOMICS A LEVEL


Level 3 | Duration: 2 years North Devon | FTB010


Economics is a vibrant, exciting and relevant subject. It affects every aspect of our lives, from the decisions we make as individuals to the structures created by governments and firms. It relates economic theories to challenges such as globalisation and its effects on the UK in terms of jobs and migration, and issues facing individual businesses such as marketing and management.


During the course, you will be introduced to the nature of economics, how markets work and why they fail, consumer choices and enterprise in the economy. You will also consider the role of banks, and life in a global economy. You will also explore the impact of globalisation on consumers, firms and the labour market and investigate the role of the government and the financial sector.


ENTRY REQUIREMENTS You must hold at least five GCSEs at grade 4 or above, including a grade 5 in Maths and English Language.


PROGRESSION Studying economics will help you develop transferable skills that will prepare you for studying at university or moving into the world of work. You may decide to study for a degree in environmental economics, business economics, international business or finance. These may lead onto careers in sales, banking, product management or general management.
