Gratiano and Salerio are waiting for Lorenzo to arrive so they can help Jessica to escape. Lorenzo finally arrives and apologises for being late. He then calls up to Jessica who is dressed as a page boy. When Lorenzo tells her that she is to be a torch-bearer, she is embarrassed to have the torch highlight her new disguise. Jessica throws down a casket (or box) of gold and jewels, saying that she will steal more gold coins before descending. Later, Antonio arrives, informing Gratiano that the masque has been cancelled and that Bassanio is going to set sail immediately. Gratiano welcomes this news.
