The TED Approach to Answering
Examination Questions For each main point: include a Topic sentence give Examples/evidence
and then Discuss
A topic sentence expresses the main idea/point of the paragraph in which it occurs. It usually comes at the start of the paragraph, but can also be found at the end of the paragraph. For example, if you wish to write about the challenges that Portia faces as a character, you might write a topic sentence such as: The fact that Portia’s dead father has created a lottery/test to choose her potential husband causes Portia to feel frustrated and disillusioned.
Next, try to include examples to support your point. These could be quotes or references to the play.
Finally, discuss how your examples help to expand on your topic sentence.
