In this scene, Salerio and Solanio discuss the recent happenings in Venice. First, they discuss Shylock’s reaction to his daughter’s escape. They talk about how Shylock called on the Duke of Venice to help him find his daughter. Next, Salerio mentions that he heard a rumour that a merchant ship was lost at sea in the English Channel. He fears that this ship could belong to Antonio, but does not wish to upset him by telling him about it now. Salerio also talks about Bassanio and Antonio’s sincere and emotional farewell to each other.
