Action – What Happens?
This is the final scene of the play. The mood is serene (calm) and tranquil, with music playing and the couples being reunited. Lorenzo and Jessica are relaxing in Portia’s garden in Belmont, looking at the night sky and listening to music as Portia and Nerissa arrive home. Soon Bassanio, Gratiano and Antonio arrive in Belmont and the ring plot reaches its conclusion with Nerissa and Portia’s role in the court scene being revealed. Portia has positive news for Lorenzo, Jessica and Antonio which lifts their spirits at the close of the play.
