CHAPTER 23 SYSTEMS AND SERVICES Contemporary lighting developments
• LED rope lighting: often used to highlight contemporary interior design features, e.g. a recess in a ceiling.
• LED step lighting: often used on stairs as a decorative feature, making them attractive to look at, and as a safety feature, making steps easier to see at night.
• Sensor/motion activated lighting: detects movement by picking up the heat that radiates from an object or person, causing the light to automatically turn on. Often used as a safety device to alert homeowners of intruders.
• Colour-changing lighting: e.g. bulbs that can be connected to an app that wirelessly changes their colour. Often used to create mood lighting in the home.
• Outdoor lighting: e.g. solar lights containing a solar panel with a photovoltaic cell that converts sunlight to an electrical current. Energy is stored during the day and released at night. Often used to light up pathways and decking in the garden.
