ELECTIVE 1 HOME DESIGN AND MANAGEMENT How to evaluate and modify the layout of a home
In the exam you may be asked to analyse a floor plan and discuss its suitability, or to carry out modifications to the layout.
• Suitability: when analysing the suitability of a plan for a particular group, e.g. a couple or a family with young children, consider the layout and evaluate whether it suits their specific needs and requirements.
• Modify: modifying the layout may involve changing the use of a room, e.g. a garage into a playroom, or moving internal walls, e.g. to make an open-plan kitchen. Modifications are made to cater for existing or future needs.
