Insulation Inefficiency Strategy for improvement Attic
Draughts ?
• Insulate the attic with fibreglass or cellulose insulation to save heat from being lost through the roof
• Fit draught-excluders around windows and doors, as this can cut heat loss by as much as 20% in winter
• Install double- or triple-glazed windows

Building Energy Rating (BER) system
The Building Energy Rating (BER) system used for homes is similar to the energy label on appliances, with a scale of A to G. A-rated homes are the most energy efficient, while G-rated homes are the least efficient.
Since 1 January 2009, a BER certificate is compulsory for all homes being sold or rented and must be included in commercial advertisements. The home must be assessed by a registered BER assessor in order to determine a BER rating and obtain a certificate. During the survey they assess the:
• area of the rooms and windows • thickness of the walls and the levels of insulation
• heating system • floor and the wall types.
