Next, the hepatic portal vein transports the amino acids to the liver. In the liver, amino acids are: • used to maintain and repair liver cells
• passed into the bloodstream and body tissues to form new cells, hormones, enzymes and antibodies. Excess amino acids are deaminated to produce heat and energy.
