The interior of a home is not only a reflection of the era in which it was designed, but the taste or personality of the owner. A well-designed interior makes the home aesthetically pleasing and more enjoyable to live in.
Elements of design The three elements of design are colour, pattern and texture.
Colour Benefits of colour in the home
• Colour adds interest and character to a room, e.g. a bright red wall in a cream room will catch the eye and grab attention.
• Colour prevents interior spaces from being bland and uninteresting, e.g. an all-beige room.
• Colour can express a person’s personality or interests, e.g. red for a person’s favourite team.
• Colour can complement external surroundings, e.g. neutral colours in a conservatory will complement the green tones outside.
