AESTHETIC AWARENESS OF FOOD
What you will learn:
• The five senses • Aesthetic awareness when choosing, preparing and cooking food • Aesthetic awareness in food presentation
Food is not only necessary for human survival, it is also something that can stimulate the senses and give pleasure. The look, smell, taste and texture of a food will influence whether or not people buy, prepare or eat it. This is known as aesthetic awareness.
The five senses Humans have five senses.
Sense Sight Organ Eye
Sound Ear
Smell Nose
Taste Taste buds Touch Nerve endings
When stimulated, senses send messages to the brain through the nervous system. These messages create a response that can be positive or negative, influencing whether or not we choose or reject a food. The senses influence food choice, preparation, cooking and presentation.
