It is with no little embarrassment and a great deal of sadness that I find myself, after twenty or so years of producing this magazine, writing the Foreword for my final issue as Editor, especially since I know it replaces so many very special people, including members of our Royal family and many other high profile figures.
However, since this will be my last Edition I would like to take this opportunity of thanking all of you who have contributed, both in photography, advertising and editorial terms for your help and generosity of spirit for assisting with this unforgiving task each year. In many ways it has been enormous fun cajoling, pleading and begging for participation and contributions, all of which have become part of a special final production for others to enjoy.
Not wishing to brag but I believe our Club was the first Club to do an A4 style glossy magazine. Some might question this but I am sure many other Clubs followed our lead. I know that we were the first to ever put the magazine on line digitally.
Whilst I am aware that we could put this magazine into the hands of commercial production companies to possibly make profit, what we have always tried to promote was the love and integrity of our HPC Club and this meant keeping it very personal to our own experiences within the Club.
I would love to have done a quiz on the articles to see who actually reads them as I am certain predominantly all our players and members wish to see is a photograph or two of themselves. Such is today’s world but it was always thus!

However, it is slightly sad that all the time and effort that is put in by some aspiring, kind (and nudged) authors gets glossed over. However they should take heart that at least their words are forever in print for our future generations, should they be interested, to read and know the history that has been created, the quirky and fun things that have happened over the years and some nice, some beautiful, and some naughty pictures that have graced the pages of our very personal Club Magazine.
I would like to thank, most sincerely, our club photographer Robert Piper for bringing the written word so wonderfully to life throughout this magazine with his fantastic photography, keen eye and artistic flair, along with Edward Lloyd and our many enthusiastic club members who have also contributed images.
It has always been a time consuming and stressful experience each year to put the magazine together and I have to admit I shall be relieved not to have either the responsibility nor the pressure in having to do it in the future, but I will also grieve a little as I will no longer be party to the naughty gossip which very often gets edited out to save the blushes of our members.
May I wish you all a happy future at our wonderful club, cherished by so many and most of all by your retiring Editor and her long suffering husband!
