Polo on Sunday, 9th of July at Ham Polo Club included the annual Cheval Cup, sponsored by luxury London based serviced apartment specialist Cheval Residences. Cheval Residences’ welcomed guests, including colleagues, clients, partners, media and industry contacts, to a relaxed and entertaining drinks reception, luncheon and an afternoon of polo on a balmy July Sunday. Cheval Residences hosted over 300 guests and thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to thank everyone for their collaboration with the brand, look back on the first half of the year, mingle and soak up the atmosphere of the day.

The Cheval Polo Cup Tournament began the day as guests arrived to lunch in a large marquee erected especially for the large number of guests. All were welcomed by Mohammed Shareef Al Marzooqi, Managing Director of Cheval Group and President of Ham Polo Club, and his wife Fazila, together with the Chairman, Nicholas Colquhoun-Denvers prior to the main match between their two teams; Cheval Noir and Cheval Blanc.

Spectators were treated to a fun and exciting 11/12 goal game featuring a roster of young professional players made up by the following two teams.

POLO CHALLENGE 2017

The Match of the Day began and Lorenzo Larumbe put the first goal through the posts for Cheval Noir, no other goals followed from that side, Cheval Blanc scored two goals by Ali Paterson in swift succession making the score 2 to 1 for Blanc. Moving onto the second chukka Cheval Noir needed to catch up to even the match. Lorenzo came through again and scored followed by Fede Boudou for Noir, now Noir were ahead by a goal. 3 to 2.

After half time moving into the third chukka the blood was up and fierce rivalry continued with Jimmy Wood bettering the score for Noir but not to be outdone Antonio Menard bit back with one more goal but still leaving Blanc a goal behind. The final chukka commenced with no goals from Noir but Antonio slammed one final goal through for Blanc bringing the score to 4 all. However due to a half goal advantage point this meant that Cheval Blanc ran out the winners at 4 ½ goals to 4 – Another action packed match was viewed by one and all and with so much talent on the field, the game did not disappoint.

At the end of the match, the jovial ambience continued as Cheval Cup Trophy was awarded to the Cheval Blanc Team by George Westwell, Managing Director of the Cheval Group. Umpires, referees and commentators were thanked and it was smiles all around as a fantastic day out was had by all. We’re already looking forward to next year!
