SLOT FOCUS - INNOVATION RELAX GAMING

Relax Gaming: building a worthy sequel

Every major developer, in any industry, has had its breakthrough product that gave the company the platform it needed to be regarded as one of the best. For Relax Gaming, this is the Money Train series.

As the supplier gears up to release its third instalment, Callum Sultana, Game Product Owner at Relax Gaming, offers G3 a behind the scenes look at how the gameplay and features in Money Train 3 have evolved in lockstep with the evolution of the game world.

What was the background to the creation of the original Money Train?

Te original idea to create Money Train came to us whilst we were visiting Las Vegas back in 2018. It became quite apparent that one of the most popular styles of games on the strip was ‘Hold em respin’ slots, however, they were all very much the same. Te team put their heads together and we began thinking of fun ways we could enhance the mechanic, that’s how the game as we know it today came to life.

What impact did Money Train's launch in 2019 have on the success and industry standing of Relax Gaming today?

Money Train’s launch and the success that followed was pivotal for Relax Gaming, it showed players and operators what our studio was really about - creating different, high- quality content. Tere’s no doubt that Money Train put us up there with other top suppliers who were well established at the time.

How important is it to have standout title within the games compilation?

It’s very important to have a standout game within your portfolio. Tat being said, we’ve been incredibly fortunate to have success with multiple games such as Temple Tumble, Dead Riders Trail, Hellcatraz and more recently, our Dream Drop Jackpots.

What made the first Money Train so successful? Why did the slot resonate with players?

When the game was first released, a lot of suppliers were developing similar style games and Money Train immediately stood out from the crowd, which certainly gave it a welcome boost. We put a lot of the game’s long-term success down to its incredibly engaging mechanics and feature combinations. With so many combinations to hit a max win, most players experience their own story within the game, which is a unique offering for an online slot.

Why did you choose the Wild West theme for the original Money Train?

We knew early on in the game’s production that we were onto something special, so we came up with a narrative that would allow for story development in iterations of the game later on. After a lot of thought, we settled on a Western theme that could evolve throughout the Money Train franchise.

Was the game an immediate success?

Yes, it was an immediate success. When we first started showcasing the game to operators the feedback we received from them was amazing, by the time players caught a glimpse of the game on affiliate sites they had already gained a strong understanding of how the mechanics worked, which helped it take off even quicker.

If Money Train was launched today, do you think it would stand out from the crowd?

We strongly believe the entire game series would do just as well as they did when they were first released. Every game in the series is still doing well across the board and we also see similar mechanics coming out these days that are resonating well with players. Te mechanics in this game offer multiple ways of hitting big wins, creating different experiences with each round, this is a quality that not many games can match.

Has Money Train inspired copycat games?

Naturally we’ve seen quite a lot of Money Train- inspired game mechanics spawn from its release, but players and operators are very wise to it now and none of these games have even come close to what Money Train can offer them. Most of our competitors are playing catch up, and whilst they can always see and imitate what’s live and coming up from Relax, we have plenty more creative ideas in the bank!

How did you look to build on the original title in Money Train 2?

We were able to watch plenty of streamers playing Money Train in the lead-up to the
