Analytics drive creative thought
In a new series of articles, G3 talks to game designers about the creation of games. This month, Betsoft discuss the pride the company takes in the quality of their game productions. Even before the inception of the Slots3 line of games, their focus has been to provide the best experience to players, from the very root of the idea, to the final release that they deliver.
Each new game produced by Betsoft’s world class designers and developers is built on the accomplishments of the previous game. Tis creates a consistent stream of game releases that only get better month after month.

The first artists involved are the Modelling artists. These artists will need to study the details and shapes of the concept art provided and replicate these within the 3D space. Using modelling software, sculpting software, and an in-depth review process, these artists are able to create replicas of the 2D concept art designs within the 3D space.

A game production can begin in several ways, but most commonly, Betsoft pull themes and functionalities from experienced data analysis. Betsoft’s KPI statistical information is provided through the Casino Manager software. By tracking key data points in their existing games across many markets and demographics, Betsoft can conclude with reasonable accuracy which features and thematic elements will provide the most appeal for their players. Tis usually forms the most basic “spark” that begins the progression of the game.
Betsoft have found through the game creation process that the best results are earned when you begin with the function of the game, not the visual elements. While visual elements play a key role in the longevity of the game, they must work in tandem with the functionality or some of the magic is lost. Tis functionality documentation will form the basis for all art and mathematical approaches to the game and acts as the backbone for all production.
From there, Betsoft’s robust team of artists is set into motion. Whether the end result will be in Betsoft’s beloved 3D medium, or a more
traditional style of game in their budding Classics Slots line up, the first stop is always concept art. Tis stage of production involves Betsoft’s artists running through any characters, worlds, symbols and otherwise with a quick speed. Tis defines the shapes, colours, and general look of the game. Betsoft employees several concept artists, giving the end work a wide spread of styles.
Te concept phase is the most involved phase for the Art Directors at Betsoft. It is during this time that they provide detailed feedback, draw over previous examples to give critiques, and generally shape and mould the game’s final direction.
Especially for the Slots3 line of games, there is still a lot to be done once the concept art phase is concluded. Te creation of 3D assets and final game products involves a full team of artists, all with unique and specific jobs that help guide the objects, characters and worlds into their final state.
