CHILE LICENSING
Both Enjoy and Sun Dreams have entered the bidding process for the municipal licence for the casino located in Pucón. However, there were no bids for the municipal licences in Arica nor for the casino in Puerto Natales meaning that a new bidding process for these casinos will need to be initiated, according to a statement released by the Chilean Gaming Board (SJC).
Tese new special conditions, including technical standards, must now be put forward to the respective mayors and approved by the Supervisory Council of the SJC.
As for Pucón the SJC will now revise the proposals which have been put forward and the process will be completed in a term of not more than 120 days. Te casino in Pucón is currently run by Chilean operator Enjoy. Enjoy is also the license holder for the casino in Coquimbo, and Viña del Mar and it wishes to keep these licences and also bid for the casino in Puerto Varas, which is currently run by its competitor Sun Dreams according to local press reports.
As well as bidding for the casino in Pucón it is believed that Sun Dreams also plans to bid for the licences for the casinos in the municipalities
Thunderbird sells its Peruvian operations to SunDreams
Peru
Tunderbird Resorts Inc will sell all of its gaming operations in Peru to SunDreams S.A. of Chile. Tunderbird said: “Te Group is pleased to announce that it has signed binding agreements with SunDreams S.A. of Chile to sell all of our Peruvian gaming operations plus the approximately 7,000sqm. of gaming real estate and approximately 150 parking spaces. Te price for these assets is US$26m.”
Te transaction is subject to certain conditions precedent and regulatory approvals, and is projected to be completed before the end of January 2018. Te company was, however, at pains to point out that it would not be selling its 66 all-suite Fiesta hotel or its approximately
in Coquimbo, Viña del Mar, Puerto Varas and possibly the casino in Iquique.
Projects for the new municipal licences will be awarded points and judged on a wide number of different criteria by a number of different branches in the government including local and regional governments, the Tourist Board, the Ministry of Interior and Public Security and the SJC. Points will be awarded on how the casino will fit in with local communities and into regional development strategy. Te SJC will also evaluate the project on how it will impact tourism, and will take into account the location, design and the quality of the proposed facilities.
Te bidding process for the casino in Pucón is likely to be fierce as will the process for the casino in Viña del Mar. In January 2016 General Manager of Enjoy, Gerardo Cood highlighted the significance that the Casino de Pucón has had for the company in the past and also expressed an interest in participating in the bid to renew the license and went on to say that the company wishes to maintain the number of casinos it currently operates in Chile. He also confirmed the company’s willingness to renew its license in Viña del Mar.

SunDreams said that the binding agreement with Tunderbird Resorts includes the acquisition, through its Peruvian subsidiaries, of the Fiesta de Miraflores casino and three other operations in Lima, Tacna and Cusco. Fiesta has approximately 7,000 square meters of floor space and 680 gaming machines, as well as three other operations in Lima, Tacna and Cusco which together add up to 560 additional gaming machines. According to a statement released by SunDreams: "Te total price of the transaction amounts to US$26 million, and includes the acquisition of all the shares of the operating companies of the gambling halls, the purchase of the property where the Fiesta casino in Lima operates and the transfer of the municipal and ministerial authorisations necessary for their operation.”

Te Province of Buenos Aires has ratified via a decree, the resolution put forward by the Provincial Lottery and Casinos Institute which extends the validity of a series of contracts with Boldt SA until December 31. Te announcement means that the Governor of the province of Buenos Aires María Eugenia Vidal’s decision to tender the slot machine licences in the province is now official. Te government has been working for several months on a set of new terms and conditions, which are now in the last stage of review.
Te operation of slot machines in the casinos, which are located in the centre of the province and along the coast, is currently held by Boldt which operates 2,600 slot machines in the province of Buenos Aires - home to 15.6m people. Te agreements have been overdue for four years, and have been extended since then for every six months.
