GREECE GOVERNMENT LEGISLATION

Greece’s Economy Ministry has said that the government is looking at lowering casino tax to make the sector more inviting for foreign investors.

Following consultations with the gaming industry, the government is believed to be considering a mixed-rate tax system that would reduce tax on GGR from 37 per cent to 25 per cent.

Te Greek casino market has fallen sharply since the economic recession from €3.18bn in 2008 to €1.57bn in 2015. Te government has recently authorised permission to the owners of the casino licence at Mont Parnes to relocate from its mountain-top position as well as allowing plans for a new casino to go ahead at the former site of the Elliniko airport.

Local journalist Ilias Bellos said: “Greece has agreed to reform its casino legislation as a part of its bailout program, and this is interlinked with the licensing of the casino at Elliniko. It is this reform prospect that has brought a series of foreign groups from the international entertainment industry to government offices

UK SIS set to relaunch its retail TV service

SIS (Sports Information Services), has announced the relaunch of its retail TV service to bookmakers. Tere will be a short period of transition on the SIS FACTS and SIS+ TV channels for British horse racing content from the end of 2017 when SIS’s rights for the Northern courses expire, to 1st April 2018, when horse racing content from RMG courses will be introduced to the SIS service. Reflecting these changes, SIS’s new service will be introduced in two phases – one from 1st January 2018, and the second from 1st April 2018.

From 1st January the SIS FACTS channel will still include British horse racing from Chelmsford City, Leicester, Stratford, and Taunton, along with Irish horse racing. In addition to international horse racing from France, Germany and UAE, the channel will have additional horse racing content from Latin America and the US, and increased virtuals content, to complete the racing schedule.

British greyhound racing and 49s numbers and established virtual racing will also remain.

Te SIS+ channel will continue to

feature British and Irish horse racing and greyhound racing, Indian and UAE horse racing, as well as the overflow of French and German horse racing, and additional virtuals. On 1st April 2018 the SIS service will be provided across two complementary channels to reflect the increased volume of content, and the second channel will ensure content is covered as thoroughly as possible with more build-up.

Paul Witten, Product Director at SIS said “After much anticipation, we announce the relaunch of the SIS service, which have been a staple within British and Irish betting shops for over 30 years. We have worked to ensure that the SIS service schedules are optimised for customers’ needs, and will maximise value for bookmakers.”

(and to the consortium that is trying to develop the Elliniko plot.”

“Despite the original impression that state revenues would decrease, experts have explained that turnover, permits issued and investments will grow as the new regulations will further strengthen activity in the sector,” he added. “People familiar with the planned move of the Parnitha casino closer to Athens (but still outside the city), speak of a development in a new area and an investment worth €150m. Te Elliniko casino will generate even more, if it does finally go through.”

As well as the suggestion of lower tax it concluded that Mykonos, Santorini and Crete would be ideal hosts for new casinos. Te report also suggested that the government should tier taxation and make table games more viable by reducing tax.
