As operators expand across Europe and LatAm, infrastructure is becoming a key competitive

Steven, why has infrastructure become such a strategic differentiator for operators expanding across Europe and LatAm?


A few years ago, operators could launch with a decent sportsbook, some casino content, and enough caffeine to survive integration week. Today, expansion across Europe and LatAm is significantly more complex.


Infrastructure has become one of the biggest strategic differentiators in modern iGaming because operators are no longer scaling market-by- market at a comfortable pace. Tey are managing multiple jurisdictions simultaneously, each with different compliance requirements, payment ecosystems, player behaviours, and localisation demands.


If the underlying infrastructure is rigid or fragmented, expansion becomes slower, more expensive, and operationally difficult. Operators need platforms that allow them to launch, localise, and adapt quickly without rebuilding systems every time they enter a new market. Tat flexibility is now a commercial advantage, not just a technical consideration.


Operators often talk about “scaling,” but in practice scaling can create significant operational complexity. What are the biggest infrastructure mistakes you see operators making as they grow internationally?


One of the biggest mistakes is relying on fragmented systems that were never designed to scale internationally. Many operators grow quickly by adding standalone tools, temporary integrations, or multiple disconnected suppliers, but over time this creates operational bottlenecks and inefficiencies across payments, CRM, reporting, and compliance.

We still see operators trying to scale internationally using infrastructure that was really only designed for one or two markets. Tat might work initially, but eventually complexity catches up with you.


Another common issue is underestimating localisation. Operators sometimes assume the same operational model can work across every region, but Europe and LatAm require very different approaches in terms of payments, content, UX, retention strategies, and even promotional behaviour. Te operators who scale successfully are usually the ones who invest early in flexible infrastructure that supports long-term operational growth rather than short-term expansion.


You’ve described WiseGaming’s platform as modular and API-first. How important is that architectural approach when operators need to adapt quickly to different regulatory and commercial environments?


It’s critical. Regulation and market conditions are constantly evolving, particularly in emerging regulated regions like LatAm. A modular, API- first architecture gives operators the flexibility to adapt individual parts of their business without disrupting the wider platform ecosystem. Tat could mean integrating a new payment provider, adjusting compliance workflows, localising front-end experiences, or introducing new product verticals.


Combined with scalable cloud infrastructure, this also gives operators the ability to deploy more efficiently across multiple regions while maintaining platform stability and operational resilience as they grow. Traditional monolithic systems simply struggle to move at that speed. Operators need infrastructure that allows them to react quickly to both regulatory changes and commercial opportunities, and that’s exactly where modular architecture becomes essential.
