Football most impacted by Match Fixing


A report published by Sportradar Integrity Services has detailed the company’s findings into suspicious betting on global sport.


Compared to 2022, the data indicates the suspected manipulation rate in all sports remained steady at 0.21 per cent, or one in every 467 matches in 2023.

Switzerland - Baden appoints The Board of Directors of the Stadtcasino Baden Group, one of Switzerland's leading casino companies, has appointed Christian Aumüller as the group's new CEO.


He replaces Michael Böni, who is taking on a new professional challenge after winning the new casino concessions for the casinos in Baden and Locarno as well as the strategic realignment of the terrestrial casinos and the online casinos of the Stadtcasino Baden Group.


The Austrian-Swiss dual citizen Christian Aumüller has a long and successful career in various management positions in the casino industry in Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Austria and Hungary. After various functions – most recently as CEO of Casino 96 in Balzers/Liechtenstein – he has been Chief Gaming Officer and member of the Executive Board of Grand Casino Baden since 2023.


Christian Aumüller holds an MBA in Finance and Human Resources, is a certified member of the Board of Directors and has a great deal of specialist knowledge, which he contributed as a member of the Study Commission of the Federal Office of Justice in the context of the drafting of the new Gambling Act and in the Swiss Casino Association.

Sportradar Integrity Services has published its annual report, Betting Corruption andMatch- fixing in 2023, detailing the company’s findings into suspicious betting on global sport. Based on the monitoring of approximately 850,000 events and matches across 70 sports, the report highlights a total of 1,329 suspicious matches in 2023, occurring in 11 sports in 105 countries.


Compared to 2022, the data indicates the suspected manipulation rate in all sports remained steady at 0.21 per cent, or one in every 467 matches in 2023. Similarly, the analysis marked no single sport having a suspicious match ratio greater than one per cent, confirming that 99.5 per cent of sporting events monitored had no suspicious betting detected.


Artificial Intelligence assisted in detecting almost three quarters (73 per cent or 977 instances) of all suspicious matches in 2023, representing a 123 per cent increase when compared to 2022. While AI integration into Sportradar’s Universal Fraud Detection System (UFDS) has boosted detection rates, analysis by


our integrity experts is essential to ensure accurate interpretation of data. Sportradar is committed to advancing both AI capabilities and human oversight to protect the integrity of sports.


As the world’s most popular sport for betting, soccer continued to be the most affected by match fixing with 880 suspicious matches, followed by basketball with 205 matches, then table tennis with 70 matches.Account-level betting data was used to detect 85 per cent of suspicious matches in volleyball, and 100 per cent of suspicious matches in tennis and table tennis, underscoring the importance of collaborating closely with the sports betting industry to combat match-fixing and integrity threats.


Europe had the highest number of suspicious matches (667 vs 630 in 2022), followed by Asia (302 vs 240 in 2022) and South America (217 vs 225 in 2022). 1,295 suspicious matches came from men’s sporting events, while 34 came from women’s sporting events.


Lithuania Government tightens gambling regulations


Legislative amendments have been drafted by the Lithuanian Finance Ministry aimed at strengthening gambling regulations in the country, chief amongst the amendments is a requirements for operators to monitor problem gambling.


Vilija PetronienÄ—, Senior Advisor at the Ministry’s Financial Markets Policy Department, explained that the changes would require gambling operators to embed responsible gambling measures within their practices.


Te proposal also calls for expanding the powers of gambling market supervision. Once approved by the government, the amendments will be submitted to parliament in the spring session.


In February, Lithuanian MPs registered amendments to the Gambling Law proposing to


further tighten gambling advertising in the country as of 2025. Around 50 MPs, mostly from the ruling majority, signed the amendments proposing to prohibit the dissemination of information of the gambling companies sponsoring any public events, activities, natural or legal persons.


If adopted, the amendments would eliminate advertising of betting, wagers, and casinos on television, in newspapers, magazines, or news websites, and on street billboards. Neither the names nor the logos of gambling operators could appear on the jerseys of athletes and in arenas during sporting events.


Total revenue of gambling operators amounted to €222m in 2023, up from €103m in 2020. Te amount spent on advertising in the gambling business doubled from €6.36m in 2020 to €12.73m in 2023.


Bulgaria
