Nondestructive Inspection Critical to Modern Electronics Production

By Jonghyun Kim, CEO, SEC Co., Ltd. I

ndustrial X-ray systems are a critical part of nondestructive inspection in electronics as-

sembly. These systems can im- prove the final quality of prod- ucts by detecting microscopic de- fects that cannot be seen by the naked eye. SEC Co., Ltd., is a leading

inspection equipment provider, offering industrial X-ray inspec- tion systems, linear accelerator (LINAC) and tabletop scanning electron microscopes (SEM). Es- tablished in 1991, with almost 30 years of technical experience, SEC is continuously developing the backbone of electron-beam inspection equipment in Korea. Tabletop SEM has the high- est resolution in the world and

allows for inspection of surface shapes and structures. A linear accelerator is designed for non- destructive testing in specific ap- plications and for cargo and vehi- cle inspection at ports or borders. SEC strives to improve cus-

tomer productivity and quality competitiveness based on elec- tronic beam application technol- ogy. For maximum stability, con- venience and experience, SEC guarantees continuous develop- ment as a sincere and trustwor- thy partner for its customers.

Growth and Evolution SEC began by developing

and manufacturing customized factory automation machinery, capitalizing on its technological

acumen in designing and manu- facturing precision instruments. The company contributed to in- creasing the product quality and productivity of its customers, and used its accumulated devel- opment capacity for X-ray tech- nology to expand into the X-ray inspection equipment market. X-ray equipment was soon

in greater demand in the elec- tronics and semiconductor mar- kets. Gradually, SEC technology became known internationally, and today exports through more than 100 overseas agencies.

X-Ray and E-Beam SEC deals in three areas: X-

ray inspection equipment, linear accelerators and tabletop SEM. Its high-speed 3D CT AXI is equipped with deep learning- based artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms to increase inspection precision in items like batteries and semiconductors, while main- taining fast inspection speed. The most important parts of

X-ray generators in X-ray inspec- tion equipment are internalized, making them price-competitive. Among X-ray generating devices, NTI tubes were developed to en- sure a long life of 10,000 hours with high magnification and high resolution. They made SEC the leading e-beam inspection equipment pioneer in Korea. SEC has more than 20 prod-

uct lines, including the X-eye 6000 series — highly sought after by customers. This is due to hav- ing the industry’s best inspection speed and powers of detection in the market of industrial X-ray inspection. For inline AXI equipment,

SEC’s own hybrid tube enables high magnification that cannot be implemented by other compa- nies, and 3D CT AXI has the same speed as 2D at 3.5 seconds per field of view. Also, SEC has developed the

world’s second development tabletop SEM, offering user con- venience and high magnification. More than 900 units have been sold so far, and SEC plans to in- troduce a new product in the first half of the year that is expected to expand its global tabletop

SEM market share to mark its 30th anniversary this year. In addition, the accelerator

product line (LINASEC) consists of numerous S-band accelerators that provide a wide range of en- ergy and focal sizes. For security areas requiring material identifi- cation, SEC provides 6/9 MeV dual energy interlaced LINAC.

Further Expansion Currently, SEC has more

than 100 overseas distributors. Based on electronic beam technol- ogy, it plans to expand its global territory. SEC will expand its services by discovering and ex- panding new distributors and ap- proaching customers in more re- gions. Additionally, the company will continue to invest in the re- search and development (R&D) of new technologies and new prod- ucts to expand its business. Twenty years ago, the X-ray

market was dominated by Japan- ese and U.S manufacturers. SEC entered the market in 2002 and in 2006 succeeded in developing X-ray tubes, a key part of the in- spection system. Since then, the company has worked hard to meet customer demand. When the global pandemic hit, SEC’s manufacturing line in Suwon, Ko- rea, experienced no shortage of parts. SEC has weathered the pandemic and not experienced

any disruption to its business. Contact: SEC Co., Ltd.,
