Background information Tree soldiers, Francisco, Bernardo and Marcellus are on night guard in the castle of Elsinore in Denmark. Te ghost of a dead king has appeared to them twice and they have decided to ask a man, called Horatio, to witness the next appearance of the ghost. Horatio does not believe in ghosts.
ACT I
SCENE I. Elsinore. A platform before the castle. FRANCISCO at his post. Enter BERNARDO
BERNARDO Who’s there?
FRANCISCO Nay, answer me: stand, and unfold* yourself.
BERNARDO Long live the king!
FRANCISCO Bernardo?
BERNARDO He.
FRANCISCO You come most carefully* upon your hour.
BERNARDO ’Tis now struck twelve; get thee to bed, Francisco.
