27 Environmental Analysis & Electrochemistry Expanded SARS-CoV-2 Wastewater Surveillance Test Kit
IDEXX has expanded the SARS-CoV-2 wastewater surveillance test kit range by incorporating a Matrix and Faecal Control Kit, which provides a validated matrix recovery control and human faecal measurement for normalisation in a single, multiplexed reaction. The EU Commission recommends both of these controls for providing actionable SARS-CoV-2 wastewater surveillance data to public health officials.
IDEXX has worked with laboratories around the globe to accelerate the implementation of wastewater surveillance. The SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Test offers standardised methodology, consistent results, and is supported by comprehensive IDEXX quality-control procedures and supply chain expertise. In 2021, a Water Research Foundation (WRF) study showed the IDEXX test outperformed most methods on consistency of detection.
IDEXX introduced the Water SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Test in July 2020 to support wastewater surveillance to track the prevalence of COVID-19 in communities. The Water SARS-CoV-2 RT-PCR Test combines the company’s long history of developing PCR tests and over 20 years providing validated wastewater tests. The test gives consistent results that have been validated on real-world and geographically diverse samples.

Carbon and Sulphur Analysis Made Easy
For the safe, precise and reliable elemental analysis of carbon (C) and sulphur (S) in predominantly organic matrices such as soils, waste, wood, oil, coal and coke, Eltra’s new combustion analyser ELEMENTRAC CS-r with IR detection is the perfect choice.
The CS-r with up to 4 infrared cells is designed for carbon and sulphur measurement over a very wide concentration range. It uses a horizontal resistance furnace with ceramic tube, which operates in a range from 600°C to 1550°C.
The CS-r elemental analyser meets or exceeds the requirements of all common ASTM, DIN, EN or ISO standards for elemental analysis. A high sample weight of up to 500 mg ensures excellent reproducibility of the elemental analysis results, even for heterogeneous samples.
The high combustion temperatures and electronic monitoring of the oxygen flow allow complete oxidation of the sample and help to avoid too low results even with challenging materials like cement.
For optimum user convenience, a monitor holder can be attached to the analyser, operation is possible via touchscreen or keyboard. More information online:

ADVERTORIAL Portable Quadrupole Analyser for Environmental Field Studies
The Hiden pQA portable gas analyser is a versatile mass spectrometer and offered with a range of interchangeable sampling inlets to suit a broad application range. MIMS inlets are offered for analysis of dissolved species in ground water, fermentation cultures, soil samples, and general applications where analysis of dissolved species in liquid sample is required.
The system is suited to gas analysis applications, where sample volume is small, and for environmental applications where detection of low concentration levels is required. The pQA system has a mass range of 200 amu and sub ppb detection levels. Extended mass range to 300amu is optional.
The system is supplied in a Pelican® case and can be powered by a 12 V supply for fi eld use, battery and/or solar powered, or a 220 V supply for laboratory use.
Sampling inlet systems are offered for a broad application range including: Direct membrane inlet probe for immersion and/or insertion in liquid or sludge sample, soil core sampling for example; Recirculating probe for analysis of sample with continuous fl ow, extracted sea or estuary water for example; Flow through probe, low fl ow design for denitrifi cation studies.
The system includes: Quadrupole mass spectrometer system from the RGA series with mass range options 200 amu; Mass spectrometer analyser manifold and UHV pump set with a manually valved dissolved species probe with silicone rubber membrane; Ion Gauge and interlocks to provide protection for the mass spectrometer in case of over pressure; fast acting shut off valve between the dissolved species probe and mass spectrometer manifold to protect the mass spectrometer in case of membrane failure - the valve is interlocked with the integral UHV pressure gauge; supplied in a ruggedised Pelican case for usability in the fi eld; can be powered by a 12 V supply, from a vehicle power outlet, for example as well as a standard power outlet for laboratory use; total weight is less than 40 kg.
