Participate at Pittcon in 2020 – the must attend event for scientists worldwide
Returning to Illinois, the 71st Pittcon will be held at McCormick Place, Chicago, from 1-5 March 2020, and promises to be bigger and better than ever. This unique window of opportunity provides visitors the chance to experience the latest cutting-edge technology and to find solutions to all your laboratory challenges.
As the world’s largest annual premier conference and exposition on laboratory science, Pittcon 2020 is expected to attract more than 12,500 attendees from industry, academia and government from over 90 countries worldwide. This dynamic event provides a showcase for scientific innovations on laboratory equipment, technology and supplies, unique networking opportunities and educational programmes. Experience cutting-edge technology from over 750 exhibitors, a diverse Technical Program of over 2000 presentations as well as short courses and networking sessions that provide the chance to exchange innovative ideas with scientists from around the world. Pittcon also offers more than 80 skill-building short courses in a wide range of topics as well as a once-a-year chance to connect with colleagues, establish new relationships and expand your network of scientific resources.
The 2020 topic of the 30th annual Waters symposium is ‘Ion Mobility Spectrometry-Mass Spectrometry’.
The Ion Mobility Spectrometry-Mass Spectrometry (IMS-MS) technique is diversifying and becoming more established now that several commercial exploratory instruments are available. Pioneer speakers will describe the development, commercial construction as well as recent advances in the instrumentation and its applications.
The outstanding panel of speakers who will be presenting at the Pittcon 2020 Waters Symposium includes: Michael Bowers, University of California at Santa Barbara; Martin Jarrold, Indiana University; Kevin Giles, Waters Corporation; David Russell, Texas A&M University; Richard Smith, Pacific Northwest National Laboratory.
This session will take place during Pittcon on Monday 2 March at 1:30 pm. Speaker abstracts and bios can be found at
pittcon.org.
Professor John A. Rogers will deliver the 2020 Wallace H. Coulter Lecture. Dr Rogers is the Louis Simpson and Kimberly Querrey Professor of Materials Science and Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Medicine at Northwestern University, where he is also Director of the newly endowed Center for Bio-Integrated Electronics.
His lecture, ‘Soft, Skin-interfaced Microfluid Systems for Capture and Analysis of Sweat’ will take place during Pittcon 2020 on Monday 2 March at 5:00pm.
Dr Rogers’ research emphasises such themes as nano-fabrication, techniques for unusual electronic and photonic devices, and bio-integrated and bio- inspired systems.
The 2020 Plenary Lecture, ‘Cannabis Constituents as Novel Strategies to Tackle the Opioid Epidemic’, will be delivered by Dr Ziva Cooper, Research Director of the UCLA Cannabis Research Initiative in the Semel Institute for Neuroscience and Human Behavior and Department of Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences.
Dr Coopers research focuses on understanding the neurobiological, pharmacological, and behavioural variables that influence both the positive and negative potential of cannabinoids and opioids. She has served of the National Academies of Sciences Committee on the Health Effects of Marijuana, serves on various editorial boards and is President of the International Study Group Investigating Drugs as Reinforcers.
Professor John A. Rogers. Dr Ziva Cooper. This fascinating lecture will take place on Tuesday 3rd March at 5:00 pm.
The 2020 Short Courses will run from 29th February - 5th March. With over 80 from which to choose from and offered at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, these range from one-half day up to two-days. There are a wide variety of classes overing relevant analytical topics, such as, food science, environmental, life science, pharmaceutical, to name a few. Courses for broad-based application and general lab functions include lab management, quality control, technical writing, statistics, data analysis and lab safety.
This year, a number of new courses have been added to the schedule covering topics such as Raman spectroscopy and imaging, cannabis testing, chromatography, sample preparation, metabolics, multi-spectral imaging, and many more.

The topics for Conferee Networking during Pittcon 2020 have recently been announced. Conferee Networking sessions provide an informal venue for a small group of participants to openly discuss topics of mutual interest or solve problems specific to certain instrumentation or procedures.
This year, there will be over 30 facilitated sessions covering topics related to water quality, laboratory information/data analysis, safety, biomedical, food science, pharmaceutical science, environmental science and more. These unique 90-minute networking opportunities begin Monday and run through to Thursday afternoon and are open to all registered conferees at no extra cost.
