Remove Both Phospholipids and Proteins in One SPE Procedure

Selecting the right chromatographic column and media is essential for a successful separation and purification. Chromatographers just like you use Kromasil slurry packed columns and bulk from the early stages of screening and discovery to impurity isolation and API production because they can employ the same Kromasil stationary phase material across their pharma and biotech organisations. With Kromasil’s unique value proposition, you can have the methods transferred seamlessly, to colleagues working in different scales saving weeks even months and come to market faster.

Kromasil, a brand of Nouryon, is produced with perfectly spherical silica-based materials with particle sizes from 1.8 to 25 µm. The diagram illustrates where best to use Kromasil products in your daily work and select from the Kromasil Classic, Kromasil Eternity, Kromasil Chiral and Kromasil SFC platforms.

Simultaneously remove phospholipids and proteins in a single, simple procedure with new Resprep PLR (phospholipid removal) SPE products. Whole blood, serum, and plasma all contain proteins and phospholipids that can interfere with target analytes and hasten the need for instrument maintenance. It’s important to remove them from samples prior to analysis to avoid signal suppression, and Resprep PLR SPE cartridges or 96-well plates make this an easy task by combining protein precipitation and phospholipid removal in one sample preparation process. No analyte-specific method development is required because the same procedure can be used for samples containing acids, bases, or neutral compounds. In addition, effective removal of phospholipids and proteins from sample extracts reduces contamination, minimising the frequency of instrument maintenance.

New GC Combines Performance and Affordability

Shimadzu UK are proud to announce the release of the new GC-2010 Pro. The GC-2010 Pro is the ideal instrument for routine, high-throughput analysis where robustness is key. It combines exceptional reliability and performance with an unbelievable affordability.

With space for two injectors (SPL, PTV/OCI and WBI) and up to three detectors (FID, TCD, ECD, FPD and FTD), as well as a wide range of automated sampling systems, including liquid and headspace solutions, the GC-2010 Pro can be configured to run a wide range of applications in a single instrument.

Detecting Nitrosamine Content in Pharmaceutical Drugs

The advanced AOC-20 series liquid autosampler also enables dual injection so that two samples can be analysed in parallel, offering more than double the sample throughput without doubling the price and without any increase in instrument footprint.

The high-performance oven also utilises a unique dual fan system to enable it to cool from 450-50oC in just 3.4 minutes so that even more samples can be analysed each day.

It is even possible to use Shimadzu’s unique ClickTek column fittings on the GC-2010 Pro, making column installation as easy as fitting a bayonet lightbulb so that even novice users can perform routine maintenance tasks.

The news has recently been full of worldwide high-profile product recalls of various pharmaceutical drugs that have been found to contain nitrosamines. Nitrosamine are carcinogenic compounds so need to be monitored to ensure unsafe levels are not found in consumer products.

The Ellutia 800 Series TEA is the industry standard for nitrosamine detection thanks to is selectivity and sensitivity for Nitroso compounds. For testing of pharmaceutical drugs, The 800 Series TEA can be interfaced to a chemical stripping system that allows for rapid testing of ATNC (Apparent Total N-nitrosamine content). This quickly gives an accurate result for the total nitrosamine content of a sample showing both volatile and non-volatile components.

Any positive sample can then be further analysed by an 800 Series TEA interfaced to a GC where volatile nitrosamines such as NDMA (N-Nitrosodimethylamine) can be separated and quantified.
