Bring on the Colours – Metrohm Presents New UV/VIS Detector

Dosino Gradient – Upgrade your Ion Chromatograph to a Powerful Gradient IC System

How to achieve the best possible separation of early-eluting anions while maintaining acceptable retention times for late-eluting anions? The Dosino Gradient is the answer to this notorious challenge. Metrohm’s Dosino Gradient enables optimum separation in an acceptable time for all anions and all applications.

With the Dosino Gradient as many as five eluents can be combined and moved with a single double-piston high-pressure pump. The system enables different gradient profiles. A step gradient, where a change from a weak eluent to a stronger eluent takes place after a defined time, is the basic profile.

More complex profiles can also be easily programmed using the MagIC NetTM ion chromatography software.

Linear changes in eluent composition can be made. One of the five eluent connections can, alternatively, also be connected to a rinsing solution. Thus a fully automatic rinsing step can be integrated a the end of a determination series.

Metrohm’s new 887 Professional UV/VIS Detector enables safe and reliable quantification of substances that are active in the ultraviolet or visible spectrum. The instrument is operated by the user-friendly MagIC Net™ software and determines a broad variety of analytes via direct or indirect extinction. Besides the classical anions and cations, transition metals and a range of organic substances can be also detected. Even in complex matrices as, for example, biological samples, low detection limits can be achieved due to the specific extinction properties of many analytes.

By means of additional pre- or post-column reaction, a large number of other substances can be digested and transformed into UV- or VIS-active molecules allowing those substances to be determined by means of the 887 Professional UV/VIS Detector.

The 887 Professional UV/VIS Detector complements the proven conductivity detector and extends Metrohm’s range of intelligent detectors. All Metrohm detectors can be substituted for each other and can be combined.

Metrohm presents the 886 Professional Reactor, a rugged and versatile flow-through reactor for fully automatic pre- and post-column derivatisations. The new reactor enables single- or multi-step derivatisations at any temperature between 25…120ºC. The system features a variable reactor geometry allowing to adjust the reactor residence time of the reactants according to derivatisation kinetics.

The new reactor facilitates post-column chemistry for any liquid chromatography system. Methods can be developed and optimised in terms of reagent concentration, flow rates and reactor residence time of the resulting mixture. Key benefits of the 886 Professional Reactor are: broad application range; high derivatisation yields; suitability for complex matrices; derivatisations at high temperatures; traceability of results due to chip-based intelligence.

The flexibility of the new reactor has been demonstrated by optimising four widespread post- column techniques: the relatively slow ninhydrin reaction with amino acids and the fast derivatisations of silicate, bromate and chromate(VI). Further details are provided in a technical poster.
