The Most Advanced GPC/SEC Instrument for Polyolefin Analysis


Polymer Char launches its new High Temperature GPC instrument. The GPC-IR is specially designed to polyolefin analysis and provides its users with an advanced modular design, an improved detection stability and full automation of the analytical process.


The GPC-IR fully automated operation process eliminates the need of solvent handling. The instrument takes care of the filling of the vials, sample dissolution, in-line filtering and injection process. There is no need at all of vials transfer at high temperature.


The GPC-IR main body consists of a columns oven compartment, with a 0.01ºC control up to 220ºC, where the GPC columns are placed and isolated from the rest of the hardware; and on top of it, the separate Injector-Detectors Oven compartment, where Injection and filtration valves and detectors are installed.


The autosampler’s capability is 70 samples, with a heated zone for sample dissolution. Each sample vial stays at the heated compartment (up to 250ºC) only for selected dissolution time. This capability combined with a gentle shaking avoids the thermal and shear degradation in the samples.


The instrument can be configured as a quadruple detector system with: Infrared detector IR4 (with concentration and composition sensors), Viscometer, Light Scattering (DAWN® HELEOS™ II of Wyatt Technology) and, optionally the high sensitive IR5 with a Mercury Cadmium Telluride infrared detector can be added for the analysis of very low levels of branching.


GPC-IR Virtual Instrumentation Software provides instrument control and process monitoring. The new and comprehensive GPC One calculation and reporting software platform integrates all detector signals in a single package. Also SQC (Statistical Quality Control) tools are incorporated into the software, to help tracking the status of the instrument.

New Syncronis Range of HPLC Columns


Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc announced the new Thermo Scientific Syncronis HPLC column range. This new range unerringly delivers consistent, predictable separations, from run to run and column to column. The company showcased the Syncronis HPLC column range during the 28th International Symposium on Chromatography (ISC), held in September in Valencia, Spain.


When developing a new method, one of the key goals for the chromatographer is to achieve a consistent, reproducible separation. The selection of a highly reproducible HPLC column is essential to attaining this goal. The new Syncronis column range has been engineered to deliver exceptional reproducibility by providing highly pure, high surface-area silica, dense bonding and double endcapping, all controlled and characterised through rigorous testing.


New enhanced, automated column packing methods used within the Syncronis range deliver greater consistency, and every column is individually tested to ensure that it meets the required specifications. These extensive testing and quality control procedures ensure the delivery of a completely consistent product, column after column.


Syncronis columns are available with 5µm particle size for conventional HPLC applications and with 1.7µm particle size for high-speed, high-efficiency UHPLC separations.

Back-Thinned CCD Mini Spectrometer


The Horiba Scientific VS7000 is a pre-configured, ultra low stray light, UV-VIS-NIR miniature spectrometer with an uncooled back-illuminated CCD and USB-2 integrated electronics for OEM applications that require sturdy opto- mechanical designs for long term stability.


The mini spectrometer comes with LabView based


acquisition software and VIs. Spectrometer of choice for OEM low light, high SNR requirement applications with a selection of slit widths, integrated OSF and with three spectral range selections: 200-860nm; 380-750nm; and 200-1050nm.

Multi Fluid Multi Range Gives Flexibility and Cost Reduction


Digital Mass Flow Meters and Controllers for gases of Bronkhorst High-Tech’s Select series offer greater flexibility for user selection of both flow ranges and gas types. As a result of their ‘Multi Fluid Multi Range’ feature in combination with a high rangeability (up to 187.5:1), equipment manufacturers (OEMs) are able to drastically reduce the variety of spare instruments they keep on stock and thus reduce the cost of ownership. Users of MFCs in pilot plants or laboratories can rescale their instruments on site, saving time and money for dismounting and recalibration.


For the convenience of the user, Bronkhorst High-Tech has developed a free software tool called FlowTune. By hooking up the instrument to the RS232 port of a laptop and running this freeware configuration tool, the selection of different flow ranges is as simple as 1, 2, 3.


The instruments, covering flow ranges from 0…1mln/min up to 0…1670ln/min, are available in two configurations. The EL-FLOW Select series have a housing designed for laboratory and clean processing conditions, the IN-FLOW Select series are of rugged design according to IP65 (dust- and waterproof). The latter are also ATEX


Category 3, approved for use in Zone 2 hazardous areas. In addition to the standard analogue I/O-signals and the RS232 connection, there is the possibility of integrating an interface board with DeviceNetTM
