Proven Solutions for Wheel-borne Contamination in Critical Environments
Dycem supplies the number one solution to control wheel-borne contamination. Dycem’s WorkZone has been specifically designed to remove contamination from areas subject to heavy wheeled traffic. It effectively attracts, collects and retains contamination from the wheels of forklifts, pallet trucks, large trolleys and carts preventing particles and microbes from getting into critical areas. Unlike adhesive peel- off mats, which tend to wrap around wheels, specifically WorkZone with its larger continuous floor coverings provides the only effective form of wheel-borne contamination control.
It is designed to be used in all entrances to prevent ingress of contamination; in all exits to stop the spread of contamination, cross contamination and the spread of potent compounds. It will also be used in corridors to prevent cross contamination. WorkZone is being used in multiple areas where contamination is an issue. It is applied in the most pharmaceutical production areas where maximising yield and product quality is of paramount importance. This may be equally said in many environments across all industries including electronics, automotive, optics and IT production and development settings.
Dycem’s CleanZone technology is a proven active working floor covering that attracts, collects and retains foot, wheel and airborne contamination. Dycem’s products contain an integral anti-microbial additive, BioMaster™. This has been successfully tested against fifty common organisms including Salmonella,
E.coli, Listeria, Campylobacter, Pseudomonas,
A.Niger (black spot mould growth) and Algae. BioMaster has also been demonstrated to help combat MRSA.
Being environmentally friendly saving energy in both production and in disposal, CleanZone products are also quick and easy to maintain as part of the regular cleanroom wet cleaning schedule. The surface of the mat is cleaned with a damp sponge and detergent; then squeegeed dry and finally wiped clean of the detergent and contaminant residue.

From Macro to Micro with Mini Sample Processor IntegenX, Inc California, USA, has used Tecan’s Cavro®
Mini Sample Processor (MSP) 9250 as the basis for an automated Sanger
sequencing sample preparation platform. The Apollo 100 Sanger Sequencing Automation system uses the Cavro MSP 9250 to automate bulk liquid transfers, interfacing directly with IntergenX’s patented MOVe™ microfluidic technology to enable users to work with small volumes, from 10 nanolitres to 100 microlitres. James Nelson, Marketing Director at IntegenX, explained: “With Sanger sequencing, the major ‘pain point’ for the researcher is the expense of both the Big Dye®
and clean-up reagents. The process is relatively expensive when
performed manually, but, once automated with a microfluidics chip, the reagent volumes used can be dramatically reduced, meaning that the initial cost of automation pays for itself through the substantial reagent cost savings generated.”
“Sample volumes for manual methods are typically in millilitres, and the Apollo 100 system provides an easy-to-use interface between the ‘macro world’ and our microfluidic technology that handles microliter to nanoliter volumes. To transfer samples from macro to micro we required a robotic system that was highly reliable and robust. Tecan was a name our customers knew and trusted, and the Cavro MSP matched our needs really well. It was very straightforward to integrate into our system, and Tecan provided all the technical support we needed. We are now planning to incorporate Tecan’s robotic liquid handlers into future products based on our MOVe technology, including exciting solutions in the field of next generation sequencing,” Mr Nelson concluded.

Ensuring Sample Integrity in Cleanroom Environments
Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc has introduced the La-Pha-Pack stainless steel cleanroom crimping tools for a controlled, low-effort method of vial sealing. Available in a range of sizes, from 11 to 20mm, the optimal crimp is provided for a variety of vial sizes. Made entirely from stainless steel, it provides maximum durability and easily withstands dry heat sterilisation or autoclaving. The product range is ideal for highly sensitive chromatography cleanroom applications where it essential that the environment remains free from any potential contaminants.
The mechanism of the La-Pha-Pack crimping tools is both corrosion- and heat-resistant, making it extremely durable with a long lifespan. Furthermore, the stainless steel construction removes the need for any protective coating on the handle or crimp head. Pressure and height of the La-Pha-Pack stainless steel crimping tools are easily adjustable, enabling optimal torque to be applied to a wide variety of vial styles.

employs about 150 New Versatile Sample Prep Technology
The new ElectroPrep System from Harvard Apparatus is an extremely versatile patented sample prep technology based on electro-dialysis. The ElectroPrep can be used for electro-dialysis, electro-elution, electro-filtration, electro-fractionation or electro-concentration for running a sample simultaneously into multiple molecular weight cut off (MWCO) fractions in as little as three minutes.
Harvard Apparatus ElectroPrep System supports a broad range of membranes with MWCO of 100, 500, 1K, 2K, 5K, 10K, 25K, 50K, 100K and 300K Daltons.
This ElectroPrep System is ideal for the rapid purification of proteins, nucleic acids, carbohydrates and other biomolecules. With a run-time of 3 to 10 minutes, ElectroPrep provides speed and convenience, even at the very low currents (5 to10 mA) used with this system. The new reusable sample chambers are made of PTFE for high sample recovery and have been redesigned to provide larger membrane surface areas for even faster dialysis rates. These ElecroPrep DIALYZERS are of 50 µl to 1500 µl volume and can be joined with a Union or one or two Link Chambers in different combinations and membranes.
