SCIENCE WORLD – THE FISHER SCIENTIFIC LABORATORY EXPERIENCE By Tamsyn Cox
Record Attendance at Science World 2010
Fisher Scientific announced that Science World 2010 – The Fisher Scientific Laboratory Experience, was its most successful laboratory show ever. The 19th
Science World,
considered by many to be the UK’s premier lab show, attracted a record 800 attendees this year, which took place at Wembley Stadium on 15 April 2010.
Show attendees visited more than 75 world-leading laboratory product manufacturers and suppliers in a relaxed and informal environment. Wembley Stadium, the Venue of Legends, was a great setting for the show, and many attendees took advantage of the free tours of the stadium.
Lord Professor Robert Winston presented a seminar entitled ‘Trusting Technology’, which asked the provocative question: are there technological solutions to the problems that
increasingly powerful technology is causing? In another session, Professor David Bellamy gave the audience plenty of food for thought by questioning whether global warming is man-made or instead another cycle in the natural history of our planet.
Dr Hal Sosabowski, always a popular attraction at Science World, entertained visitors with his ‘Elemental Spectacular’ demonstrations, proving that science is not only interesting, but also great fun.
”Very well laid out, very interesting and a great opportunity to meet new suppliers,” said one of the record number of attendees as they left the show (Further comments can be found on pages xiii, xiv and xv). Encouraged by record attendance and positive reactions by patrons, Fisher Scientific already anticipates a strong showing for next year’s show, its 20th
event.
Autoclaves Get an Upgrade
Astell Scientific now offers as standard the Logi full colour touchscreen controller on all of their autoclaves, from the 30-litre benchtop unit to their Square Section models up to 2,000 litres. The controller was featured on Astell’s stand at the Fisher Science World at Wembley on 15th
April,
where it was well received by end users from a variety of sectors.
Astell also provided details of its stand-alone steam generators, effluent treatment systems and the new Duaclave ‘double-decker’ autoclave, which provides the ideal solution for users who need to double their autoclave capacity without increasing the equipment footprint.
Safety Specs Meet a Demand
Owing to the fact that more women are entering into employment where safety spectacles are becoming a mandatory item in safety wear, Bolle teamed up with its designers to develop and manufacture a piece of eyewear to suit this market at an affordable cost to industry.
The Bolle Bandido XS was recently launched to its distribution network, which has in turn developed numerous sales enquiries to the end user markets as a much needed alternative to what is currently on offer in the safety market.
The Bandido XS has been specifically designed to provide the perfect fit for those people with a smaller face, for example, petite adults, ladies, teenagers and children and it is also very competitively priced. The Bandido XS comes with optical class 1 anti-scratch polycarbonate lenses and dual injection temples for extra comfort.

Ken Heap, Astell’s National Business Development Manager, was particularly enthusiastic about the quantity and quality of visitors: “The venue was extremely impressive, and we certainly received a larger than usual number of enquiries from genuine buyers and specifiers. Hopefully this was a sign of an improving market, as well as an indication of Fisher’s hard work.”
