Circle no. 155 New In Vitro Fertilisation Products

Thermo Fisher Scientific, Inc announced two new products for in vitro fertilisation (IVF) applications, the Thermo Scientific Nunc IVF ICSI and Centre Well petri dishes. Designed for consistent experimental conditions and reliable results, all Nunc™ IVF dishes are tested to the highest standards and undergo a rigorous quality control procedure. As vital consumables within IVF, petri dishes must be kept free from contaminants to ensure an optimised experimental environment. These dishes are designed with a flat bottom for optimal heat transfer, ensuring that the correct temperature is maintained for cell viability.

The Nunc ICSI dishes (suitable for intracytoplasmic sperm injection procedures) and the Centre Well dishes provide a safe environment for fertilisation that is free from toxins that may have a negative impact on results. Nunc consumables are MEA (mouse embryo assay) tested and certified.

Circle no. 157 NIR Traceable Photometric Linearity Reference Sets

Starna Scientific is now offering near infrared (NIR) traceable photometric linearity reference sets to pharmaceutical Q.A. labs and customer support organisations looking to qualify their NIR systems. Starna’s NIR traceable photometric linearity reference sets offer Operational Qualification (OQ) and Performance Qualification (PQ) of the transmittance scale in the NIR using ‘industry standard’ protocols. The sets are based on easy to handle, non-consumable Certified Reference Materials for qualifying the NIR Transmittance scale. The wavelength range covered is 1100 to 2850 nm, with a %T (A) range of 1.5%T (1.82 A) to 61%T (0.21 A). Starna’s filters are produced in an ISO/IEC 17025 and ISO Guide 34 Accredited environment and are certified traceable to NRC (Canada). Starna, which has many years of experience gained preparing Visible Neutral Density filter references for ISO 17025 and ISO Guide 34 accreditation, produces ‘high quality’ references for National Measurement Institutions (NMIs).

Eliminating the use of hazardous solvents, such as isopropanol, is a major benefit of CoolCell – helping labs reduce costs and hazardous waste. Importantly, the elimination of alcohol also means the elimination of variability in freezing runs. CoolCell delivers repeatable, constant cooling of –1ºC/minute and provides identical freezing for all samples. The result is increased reproducibility and superior cell viability and function for scientific, clinical and diagnostic procedures.

CoolCell holds 12 screw cap 2ml cryotubes and is ideal for multiple batch freezing in a –80ºC freezer. No pre-cooling is necessary, CoolCell can be placed in the freezer at any angle and freezer heating is minimized. Samples are ready for archive storage within 3 hours, while rapid recycling between freezes saves valuable time. The unbreakable, insulated design of the CoolCell ensures easy portability of frozen cells – without ‘frosty’ fingers – and the lid opens easily even when frozen.

Alcohol-filled containers need continuous maintenance, generate hazardous waste and require extended waiting between cycles. The alcohol must be replaced frequently because it changes with each freezing run, introducing an unnecessary variable into each frozen sample. CoolCell is superior in every respect, as BioCision customers are keen to testify.
