Data acquisition and logging of laboratory equipment cycle data is becoming increasingly important for many laboratories and institutions. LTE Scientific’s Touchclave-Lab autoclave range addresses this issue in a number of ways. A standard feature on all Touchclave-Lab models is its internal memory. Up to 5000 cycles are stored on an internal flashcard, which, when full is simply replaced. The flashcard data is easily downloaded to a PC using LTE’s Touchclave-NET software. All data is checksum protected, and thus tamper-proof. Alternatively, data can be downloaded in real-time to a remote PC. This is achieved either through a hard-wired installation for PC’s which are close to the autoclave, or via Ethernet for data tends to be collected centrally. Alternatively, LTE can provide a wide range of graphic recorders or data acquisition systems to provide graphical and historical cycle data.

Touchclave-Lab autoclaves are available in a range of capacities from 150 to 450-litres and can be supplied with internal heaters, steam generators, or fed from customers own steam supply as required. The range incorporates a state-of-the-art touch-screen control system for entering and displaying all commands, cycle and program data. ‘K’ models include a water jacket cooling system to enhance cycle performance and can also be fitted with steam jackets allowing effective drying of porous and other loads.

All LTE products are supplied with Sterling anti-bacterial powder coating. A choice of eight user-programmable cycles can be stored in the memory, with an optional memory expansion facility boosting the total to 20. All Touchclave-Lab autoclaves can be supplied with a number of additional features including vacuum, air ballast, effluent retention and high security filters. For after sales care. LTE employs a 12-strong team of UKAS and HTM-qualified engineers to carry out servicing, maintenance, calibration and validation.

Available from Asynt Ltd, the Lab-Bubble™ is a versatile piece of containment equipment that can be used to provide many different types of safety or controlled environments simply by using additional components to change the function of the enclosure.

The Lab-Bubble™ is designed and tested in various configurations for applications including handling of chemicals and powders, weighing, biological sample handling and PCR preparation.

The environment in the Lab-Bubble™ can be controlled for humidity (20-55% RH) using a dry Nitrogen glove box and temperature (15- 30°C). The air extraction on Lab-Bubble™ is provided via a small box section fan filtration system that incorporates a safe change HEPA / carbon combination filter.

Affordably priced - Lab-Bubble™ can be used as a simple storage unit and also as a demonstration/ teaching unit. The construction of the main body of Lab-Bubble™ is from 6mm clear moulded cast acrylic that ensures excell nt visibility and is easily cleaned.

The base section is durably constructed from chemically resistant, 10mm thick High Density Polyethylene. (HDP).

Metal-Free Interiors for Safety Storage Cabinets

Type 90 safety storage cabinets with standard metallic interior will develop corrosion if they are used for storing flammable liquids and small quantities of hazardous substances. The hazardous vapour from acids or alkalis will react with the metal and cause it to rust. Although this is a common occurrence in all working environments it will shorten the working life of the safety storage cabinet and reduce its protective capabilities. Corrosive substances can also affect the cabinet’s sump, thus increasing the risk of leaks.

To address this problem, asecos has developed new metal-free interiors for safety storage cabinets to ensure the integrity and protective performance of Type 90 cabinets, even in cases where, owing to lack of space, only small amounts of substances are stored. Every part of the interior that is permeable to corrosive vapours is made of non-corrosive material. The height-adjustable shelves and all internal coatings are made of melamine-clad chipboard. In addition, each storage shelf has its own polypropylene sump; the sump at the base of the cabinet is made of the same material.

This metal-free construction means the cabinet can be used to store both acids and alkalis. (Note: acids and alkalis should not be stored in the same unit as dangerous vapour mixes can occur.) Large quantities of acids and alkalis should be stored in special acid/alkali cabinets.

This storage-cabinet interior specially designed by asecos uses no metal parts and meets the highest safety standards. asecos commissioned an independent test of the Type 90 cabinet in accordance with EN 14470-1. This standard requires shelves to continue to bear a maximum load after being subjected to a test fire for at least 90 minutes. It also requires the cabinet’s base sump to maintain its integrity for the duration of the fire. The Type 90 cabinet with metal-free interior from asecos passed all tests.

Autoclaves Increased Loading Improves Lab Efficiency

The extended range of QCS high capacity front-loading autoclaves from Priorclave provides one of the most versatile and cost efficient steam steriliser selections available today. With stainless steel chambers up to 1025mm in depth and three standard capacities of 100, 150 and 200 litres, each offering 20% more loading capacity than other sterilisers of the same size, laboratories benefit from more efficient sterilising operations. Laboratories are able to sterilise both small and taller-than- usual items in a single process, the increased load capacity eliminating the need to even consider investing in larger, heavier and more costly rectangular sterilisers.

For a busy working laboratory both models feature the on-board TACTROL®2 controller which ensures QCS Priorclaves deliver on performance. From simple sterilising

cycles through to fully-featured multi-programme operation with printed records, the powerful controller allows unrivalled flexibility and monitoring, automating the sterilising process which enables other laboratory tasks to be undertaken secure in the knowledge that sterilisation is proceeding safely and efficiently.

Where laboratories are seeking even bigger capacities Priorclave is also able to offer the Q63 front-loading autoclave range with capacities up to 500 litres. MORE INFO. 158
