ANNE TAKES ON CHARITY CYCLE CHALLENGE
Gibbs and Gurnell Chemist & Perfumery owner, Anne Loh, will be attempting to cycle from the mainland's most south-westerly point to the far north of Scotland in a bid to raise £2,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support
T
he nine day challenge will take Anne 990 miles across the UK, from Land's End in Cornwall to Scotland's John o' Groats, starting from 7th
September.
"I have chosen to support Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of my mum who died from bowel cancer in 2012. I think it's safe to say that everyone is affected by cancer at some point in their life. Macmillan works tirelessly to provide help and support to individuals and families affected, so I want to show my appreciation and return some of that support to them. It's a huge challenge, but it's only nine days of pain, which is nothing compared to the pain and
suffering of those that the Macmillan team support.
"I have always enjoyed cycling, but started riding more in the summer of 2015, inspired by the Pearl Izumi race which came to Ryde. I bought a road bike from the bike shop that was then in Ryde and joined their weekly club rides. After a couple of years, I realised I was quite good at it and started taking things more seriously and pushing myself a bit more, doing the occasional long ride and participating in some organised sportive rides.
"In 2017 I completed the 100 mile Prudential RideLondon and it kind of took off after that. I started racing this year and have qualified to represent
Great Britain in the UCI Grand Fondo World Series Finals in Poland on 1st September.
"I like to give myself a personal challenge each year and hearing from fellow riders about the Land's End to John o' Groats ride, organised by Threshold sports and sponsored by Deloitte, I thought this would be a great challenge. It's unfortunate that it's right on top of the trip to Poland, as it's a bit of a logistical nightmare getting myself and my bike back from Poland and down to Land's End for the 6th, but once I'm there, the riding almost seems like the easy part! The ride is fully supported with camping, food and massage provided."
