Style of Wight caught up with Leigh Sargeant, Creative Director at Jaks Hairdressing in Newport, to find out which hair trends have been hitting the male market of late
“Male grooming has become a fast growing market in recent years — we've seen the male grooming side of our business grow hugely. Cutting and styling usually include precision work for men, which often involves skin fading, close scissor work, clipper work and grading. As soon as the cut starts to grow and lose its edge, guys are coming back in to have it refreshed. This can be fortnightly in some cases - much more regularly than ladies’ cutting and styling, which are generally every six to eight weeks — so you really get to build relationships with your male customers.
“There's been a big rise in women and men supporting their other halves to keep
their look crisp too. The stigma of taking care of yourself as a man is long gone.
“Clean cut, modern barbering is really what we're seeing trend currently. Undercuts remain popular, as they are versatile and multifunctional, often allowing for more length in the internal part of the haircut to style.
“We really personalise our service to our clients’ hair style and needs. We welcome all ages and styles at our busy salon — and we've had some amazing reviews recently. We make some great relationships with so many of our clients and see them go through many stages of their lives.
“We use professional Sebastian SEB MAN styling and grooming products on all appointments. There's a great range available, including oils, clays and sculpters with a real masculine fragrance. They're also available to buy in store.
“It's important that salons aren't frightened to mix things up a bit.”
