Whilst I would love everywhere to brew loose leaf teas, the reality is that tea bags are convenient for a lot of businesses in general. Take-away teas, in particular, are a good example so the customer doesn’t have to wait for the tea to fully brew before they can be on their way. So, the Wight Label Tea range has been my first focus, using quality leaf teas but in the pyramid bag form. Wight Label Tea has been fully released for both wholesale and retail customers - and the feedback has been great.


“The teas are sourced through ‘The Ethical Tea Partnership’ accredited importers, which is an initiative that ensures teas are only sourced from estates and farms that meet appropriate levels in standards of care and conditions for their workers. In addition, the Wight Label Tea pyramid bags are made from corn starch and use ultrasonics to seal the mesh together, so there is no plastic in them and they are industrially compostable. You can put them in your household food caddy knowing you’re not leaving anything nasty in the environment!


“The Island Leaf Tea range is developing and is currently available to drink in at Caffe Isola with some of my own blends, including two different English Breakfast blends. We have a little more work to do on packaging and artwork for the Island Leaf Tea range, but it will be launching very soon to both wholesale and retail customers, and the blended teas will be hand-blended in small batches by me here on the Island. Without the constraints of minimum order runs to get teas through the expensive pyramid tea bag machines, on top of providing a core range, I will also be sourcing individual small run teas - very similar to what we do with many of our Island Roasted Single Origin Coffees.


“I also want to be able to provide the same kind of knowledge and training for tea as we do for our coffee and earlier this year, as part of my own tea education, I qualified as a UK Tea Academy Tea Champion. I will be extending that education further by working towards my Tea Sommelier

qualification over the next year, but in the meantime I intend to run regular tea courses at Caffe Isola as well as working with our wholesale customers to show how simple brewing control can get the most flavours from the teas. Whilst the subject is so vast, it


really doesn’t need to be complicated and with a very small amount of knowledge you can get really good results that allow you to taste the real flavours of the different teas.”
