Corporate Christmas Christmas

Holiday If you are planning on shutting down the workplace over the festive season, ideally you should have already announced this to your staff and clearly explained how many days off they will need to save for the Christmas closure. Christmas Eve is one day that can potentially cause a

problem. Are you open, and if so, can staff book it as an extra holiday? Many firms that do open on 24 December will allow their employees to leave early (providing a motivational boost in the process) but it’s important to let your staff know exactly when they can go home. It can be demoralising to leave them hanging all day, especially if the boss goes home without providing clear instruction!

Feature

in the Workplace

Christmas can be a stressful time of year for employers and HR departments. While your staff might want to have fun and let their hair down – and while you might want to do the same – you still need to ensure professional behaviour during the festive period and make sure your staff don’t end up on the naughty list!

Dress code Many organisations chose to relax their dress policy at this time of year – in fact, for a lot of workplaces, a ‘Christmas Jumper Day’, where staff are invited staff to wear their brightest (or ugliest) Christmas jumpers, has become a much-loved annual tradition. This can bring some festive fun into the workplace, but employers must make it clear that Christmas dress is optional and be sensitive of any and all employees who may not celebrate Christmas.
